During the season finale of Sister Wives season 17, Meri opened up about the similarities between her relationship issues with Kody and the ones Christine had, noting they were not that different. A source told In Touch that Meri is "over" how Kody has treated her. For years, Kody has turned a blind eye to how he interacts with Meri. During the same episode, Kody shared that he no longer wanted a relationship with his first wife, leaving fans to conclude that the father of 18's goal was only to claim Robyn Brow as his one and only wife.

During the Sister Wives finale, Meri revealed in her confessional that she found it interesting to hear Kody talk about his qualms with Christine. However, she finally decided to share her opinion revealing it was "disturbing" to see how Kody wanted his relationship to work with Christine but not Meri.

Meri has already admitted in the current season of Sister Wives that she hasn't felt like a part of the family in a long time. Viewers noticed Meri often keeps to herself and spends a lot of time going on solo trips without her extended family. As for Kody, he also shared that he doesn't talk to Meri every day. Now that Meri has left Kody, following in Christine and Janelle's footsteps, she is ready for her new adventure away from her polygamous family.
