Sister Wives' Meri Brown has gotten sympathy in the past, but now the first wife of Kody Brown is being called a villain. Long before any formal announcements were made regarding her separation from Kody, she appeared to lead a relatively lonely life, considering the size of the polygamist family she is part of. However, following the most recent season of Sister Wives, there has been a change in how fans and members of the Brown family speak about Meri.

There has always been a bit of mystery surrounding the true story of Meri and Kody's marriage, and Meri's participation in the Brown family dynamic. When the state of Meri and Kody's relationship came up during an episode of Sister Wives, Kody said he doesn't really consider himself married to Meri. He said that he does not believe he will "ever be emotionally safe with her". Fans often roll their eyes at Kody's ability to play the victim, but there is a possibility that this statement has some truth behind it when paired with similar statements made by some of the Brown children. Now, Meri Brown is shocked by how mean Sister Wives fans are to her when she previously garnered sympathy from many due to her inability to let go of Kody.

Mykelti Brown Speaks Out

Kody and Meri had not lived together or been intimate for years following Meri’s emotional online relationship on Sister Wives, which turned out to be a catfish. Though Meri apologized for emotionally cheating, she still managed to come across as a victim of Kody’s distance and lack of affection. Mykelti Brown weighed in on Meri and Kody's recent split.

Mykelti's sentiment was captured by @withoutacrystalball, saying "If you're going to cheat on your spouse, you're giving up on the relationship first. It's unfair for her to get mad at Dad when she gave up. She threw the towel in. She said, 'I'm done.' She cheated first." Due to the seven years that have passed since the emotional infidelity, the reason why Meri’s marriage to Kody ended has been largely attributed to Kody's lack of affection for his first wife. However, fans are beginning to hold her more accountable.

Paedon Brown Insinuates Meri Was Abusive

Sister Wives' Paedon Brown close up smiling

In a recent John Yates' YouTube Live, Paedon Brown broke his silence on the drama surrounding his father Kody's first wife. During the live, a commenter noted that Meri seemed "abrasive and kind of mean", to which Paedon responded that those were "not strong enough words". Paedon also mentioned that this behavior was targeted at "a few of [the] children specifically".

The YouTube interviewers and commenters alike attempted to get Paedon to expand even further, asking if the "abrasive" behavior was beyond verbal. Paedon said, "Oh, it moves so far past verbal. Verbal basically stopped existing." However, he did not allude to any specifics on what exactly that meant. Regardless, it's not a great look for Meri. In the past, Paedon was not allowed to talk about Meri at all, so the sudden reveal has Sister Wives fans reeling.

Mykelti and Paedon's allegations are not the only ill words spoken of Meri by the Brown children, with notable drama dating back to a feud involving Maddie Brown calling Meri out for abusive behavior. Like her catfish catastrophe, each time Meri ends up in the forefront of Brown family drama, it seems to be forgotten soon after. While Meri was still actively prattling on in Sister Wives confessionals about how she wished Kody would choose to reconcile with her, fans seemed to think Meri Brown was being taken advantage of. Now that Meri no longer holds onto her long-wielded narrative, it is possible that she is entering her villain era.
