Meri Brown of Sister Wives has appeared to be the unhappiest of Kody Brown’s four wives for some time now, and we're here to discuss the ups and downs in her relationship with Kody. All of the wives are living in different houses and Kody has admitted that he doesn’t come up with reasons to go to her house anymore. Their spiritual union and the TV series seem to be the only things holding this couple together, as they are no longer even casual friends. There were many relationship problems that brought them to this point.
Meri isn’t the only one who is unhappy in her polygamous marriage. During season 15, Christine Brown broke down and said she can’t do marriage with Kody anymore. Surprisingly, it was Meri who tried to calm her down. She told her not to say things like that. Robyn Brown has been getting more outspoken about her frustration. Janelle Brown feels that the whole family is drifting apart. Right now, it seems like the TLC show will outlast all of Kody’s relationships. Some fans think that all of the wives should leave him.
By the time Kody became engaged to fourth wife Robin during Sister Wives season 1, Meri and Robyn were already having problems. Meri said in one episode that she often didn’t want to stay married to Kody. She said, “The only thing that wants me to stay is my commitment level and my daughter.” It was a sure sign of trouble. Rather than focusing on improving his existing marriages, Kody concentrated on wooing and marrying another wife. It only got worse when, in order to legally marry Robyn and be able to adopt her children, Kody divorced Meri. She lost the only distinction she had, which was being Kody’s legal wife.
Meri’s catfishing scandal was another low point for the pair, and not just because Meri was emotionally cheating on her husband. The hypocrisy of Kody being upset that Meri would try to have a relationship with more than one man was only missed by Kody. Meri threw herself into pursuing her dream of opening a B&B, but Kody called it an irresponsible waste of money and refused to help her pay for it. By later seasons, the rift between Meri and Kody grew. Even their anniversary was a low point. While “celebrating” their 30th wedding anniversary, Meri attempted to make a connection with Kody, but he continually shut her down.
One of the worst things Kody ever did to Meri was ignoring her desire to have more children. Meri wanted to consider surrogacy since she couldn’t seem to have more children on her own and Robyn even volunteered. However, Kody shut down the idea without discussion and without any consideration for her feelings. Discussing having children is something that most couples do. The fact that Kody believes he gets to make that decision singlehandedly explains why his marriage isn't working.
During Sister Wives season 15, Kody complained, “For all of my marriage with Meri, I feel like she unloads her emotions into a burden that I’m supposed to carry. I’m not carrying this burden because there’s no reason that I should.” With Kody’s selfish attitude that his wives should keep their emotions to themselves so as not to bother him, Kody is never going to be able to have a healthy relationship. All that’s left for viewers to see is which straw finally breaks the camel's back, provoking Meri to finally leave this unhappy lifestyle behind.
