It's no secret the Brown family has its issues on Sister Wives, but the trajectory that Kody's plural marriage is on indicates the polygamist husband has failed in his relationships. Kody's connection with his four wives has always been strained, and there are several signs that suggest there is no moving forward for the five reality stars. From the irreparable damage done to Kody and Meri's relationship to Christine's need for space from the Brown clan, these are all of the reasons why Kody was unsuccessful in his plural marriage.

As a religious polygamist, Kody believes he has a moral obligation to make his marriages work with all of his wives. Over the years, however, it's become clear there's a disconnect between the Sister Wives stars. In an ideal plural marriage, all spouses would feel loved, play a meaningful role in the household, and want to be part of a united family. Regrettably, Kody and his four wives haven't achieved these standards, and it doesn't seem like they ever will. Not only are the dynamics uneven between Kody's sister wives, but many of the polygamist partners have also expressed a desire to leave the Brown home altogether.

The most apparent sign that points toward Kody's polygamous marital failure is the lopsided passion between the spouses. All Sister Wives fans are aware that Kody favors his fourth and only legal wife, Robyn. Kody spends the most time with Robyn and values her opinion more than that of the others. Jealousy is to be expected in any plural marriage as the husband can only be with one wife at a time. Meri, Janelle, and Christine experience more than just jealousy, however. The wives Kody's afforded less affection have all confessed to enduring years of loneliness and depression. An example of how Kody's unbalanced relationships demonstrate his failure is the state of his marriage to Meri. Kody's first wife felt so unloved, she turned to a catfish for closeness. Now, Kody resents Meri for cheating, and their marriage is without any hope of reconciliation.

In addition to Kody's disproportionate relationships, a sign of the patriarch's failure in his plural marriage is his wives' disdain for spending too much time together. Christine's yearning to spend time away from her polygamist marriage has become more evident in the past few seasons. In a clip from Sister Wives season 14 posted on TLC UK's YouTube channel, Christine responds negatively to Kody's idea of building a large home for all four of his wives and their children together. Although Janelle was eager to live under the same roof as her fellow stars, Christine was in adamant opposition. Christine confessed, "I really just like me tons better not living with them." Now, it's reported that Christine left Kody to live in Utah. Christine's disdain for spending time with her husband and sister wives shows that Kody failed to create a united plural marriage.

Kody might be a natural at marrying multiple wives, but that doesn't mean he's any good at making a plural marriage work. As is evidenced by his loving relationship with Robyn and dysfunctional marriage with Meri, Kody couldn't keep all of his wives happy. Christine's inclination to spend time away from Kody and her sister wives also shows that Kody failed to spearhead a unified family. Kody's fruitless plural marriage attempt is doomed to become more obvious in the Sister Wives seasons to come.
