Whoopi Goldberg offered a few suggestions on what Sister Act 3 should be titled. Released in 1992, Sister Act quickly became a cult classic and helped to solidify Goldberg as a Hollywood icon. Written by Paul Rudnick, Sister Act follows Vegas lounge singer Deloris Van Cartier (Goldberg), who enters the Catholic parish as Sister Mary Clarence under the witness protection program after she sees her mobster boyfriend committing a violent crime.

Dominating the box office upon its initial release, Sister Act spawned a sequel, Sister Act: Back in the Habit, which featured Goldberg and her resident nun sisters reprising their roles, as well as the breakout performance of musical artist Lauryn Hill. Released in 1993, Back in the Habit failed to perform like its predecessor and appeared to be the singing nuns' curtain call. However, in 2018, Disney announced Sister Act 3 was being developed for Disney+. On Disney Investor Day, Disney revealed that Goldberg was officially returning for the franchise's next film. Now it appears Goldberg has a few ideas of her own for the next installment.

Speaking with Stephen Colbert on The Late Show, Goldberg shared her potential ideas for titles for Sister Act 3. Naming off "Oh My God It Still Fits" and "Blacker in the Habit" as title contenders, Goldberg confirmed she would reprise her role as Deloris Van Cartier. Elaborating on revamping Sister Act twenty-seven years later, Goldberg stated, “People are like in their 90s, and they’re doing sequels...Everybody seems to be able to do it, and I thought those nuns deserve to have another go around."

Produced by Tyler Perry, Sister Act 3 has yet to reveal official plot details, as well as a release date. Fresh off the success of her starring role in Stephen King’s The Stand, Goldberg has been an advocate for Sister Act 3 for a long time and will also serve as a producer on the film. While production for Sister Act 3 has yet to begin, Disney+ could release the movie in 2022 if the cast list is rounded out soon.

Of course, the supporting cast in the first two films, such as Maggie Smith as Mother Superior, was vital to the plot lines and should be featured, or at least referenced, in the third film. Indeed, the announcement of Sister Act 3 and Goldberg’s return was a highlight for fans who have waited three decades to see if the popular nuns would return. Although Sister Act 3 doesn’t yet have a title, Goldberg’s witty ideas for the next installment may not end up being too far off the mark from the third film's actual title.
