2021's Sing 2 is the sequel to the much-loved although underrated, talent show 2016 film which boasted an incredible cast of legendary actors and singers. The second film will bring back much of the same cast while adding new characters to the mix, voiced by even more well-known artists.

Many of these actors haven't previously performed in musicals in quite the same way, but have a long list of credits to their name. Others are well known for their stage presence and chart-topping hits but have turned to the screen once again in their career. These projects are definitely worth checking out ahead of Sing 2.

Matthew McConaughey

Matthew McConaughey voices the founder of the talent show in SingBuster Moon. The koala is largely a con artist but that doesn't hold him back from also being a showman. It's not the first time that McConaughey has walked into a voice-acting booth.

He voiced Beetle in the critically acclaimed Kubo And The Two Strings (2016) as well as Hank in the comedy podcast series Hank The Cowdog (2020). Although he was once defined by his rom-com roles like The Wedding Planner (2001), McConaughey also starred in classics and blockbusters such as Interstellar (2014) and The Wolf Of Wall Street (2013).

Taron Egerton

Taron Egerton as Elton John

Taron Egerton lends his talents to the role of Johnny, the gorilla who has a stunning voice but gets held back by the criminal affairs of his family. The actor showed off his singing capabilities in the original Sing which has gone on to hugely influence his career.

Egerton might have shot to fame with roles as the lead in Kingsman (2014) and Eddie The Eagle (2015), but he really demonstrated his range while playing Elton John in the biography Rocketman (2019), where he got to sing once again. Strangely enough, one of his best films is considered to be The Last Of The Haussmans (2012), much earlier in his career.

Reese Witherspoon

Reese Witherspoon, Big Little Lies

Rosita the pig, a mother who works incredibly hard to look after her children while pursuing her far-off dreams, is voiced by Reese Witherspoon. The character is a fan favorite but unlike anything Witherspoon has done before; despite her comedy background.

Apple TV+'s The Morning Show (2019-2021) has been a fantastic showcase of Witherspoon's dramatic talents in recent years, as has Big Little Lies (2017-2019), but it's her work on films such as This Means War (2012) and Four Christmases (2008) that defined her career, with her comedy skills coming to the forefront. Reese Witherspoon is definitely adept in bringing voice roles to life though thanks to her leading part in Monsters Vs. Aliens (2009) as Susan.

Bono

Bono as a lion in Sing 2

Plenty of musicians have made the transition from their traditional industry into the world of film. Bono is no exception as the U2 singer is set to play the part of Clay Calloway the lion in Sing 2. Thus far his acting has been hugely limited.

Bono's filmography definitely doesn't have range. The singer has appeared as himself in sketches such as those designed for Comic Relief in the UK or on the celeb comedy Entourage (2005-2009). Bono will also be lending his voice to the upcoming short film Pandemica (2021).

Pharrell Williams

The Grinch eats a bowl of spaghetti

Pharrell Williams might be more well known as a producer and singer, but he will be coming back to the world of film when voicing Alfonso in Sing 2. Not much is known about this friendly elephant thus far, but he's sure to be a scene-stealer.

Pharrell Williams surprisingly has plenty of credits. Recently he worked as the narrator on the less than well-received animated rendition of The Grinch (2018) but has also been seen as himself in music-related films such as Pitch Perfect 2 (2015).

Scarlett Johansson

Black Widow looks concerned in Black Widow

Scarlett Johansson is more familiar to audiences in live-action than in animation, but the actor did previously voice the role of the punk rocking porcupine, Ash in Sing. The character had perhaps one of the most compelling arcs and Johansson is returning for the sequel.

Johansson will be most well known for her role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the assassin Black Widow. However, films such as Jojo Rabbit (2019) and We Bought A Zoo (2011) expanded her career, while her voice acting is continuing to get perfected on the likes of The Jungle Book (2016) and Isle Of Dogs (2018).

Nick Kroll

Nick Kroll definitely isn't known for his singing abilities but he has absolutely spent a lot of time in a voice acting booth. Kroll previously took on the role of Gunter the pig hailing from Germany in Sing and will reprise the comedic role in Sing 2.

Perhaps it was Seth Rogen-esque comedies like Sausage Party (2016) that prepared him for the role, or more family-friendly hits like The Secret Life of Pets 2 (2019) where he portrayed the antagonist Sergei, that makes him perfect here. Plus, audiences won't forget his brilliant role as Simon the Devious in What We Do In The Shadows (2019-2020).

Letitia Wright

Shuri in Infinity War

Letitia Wright is another new addition to the Sing franchise, voicing the brand new character of Nooshy, a lynx that once again has been largely kept under wraps until the film debuts. Wright is an actress on the rise with a number of big blockbusters on the way.

The upcoming Death On The Nile (2022) might be one of her next projects but fans will recognize her from the MCU as Shuri. Well-renowned shows like Small Axe (2020) and Black Mirror (2017) have helped to diversify some of Wright's work.

Tori Kelly

Tori Kelly has very few credits in her filmography as she has spent the majority of her career in the music industry. The very talented musician did however star in Sing as Meena. The character was an elephant who had anxiety about performing and went on an emotional journey to find her voice.

It's a powerful role and one that's sure to gain even more attention in Sing 2. Recently fans might recognize Tori Kelly from the 2020 season of The Masked Singerwhere she portrayed the seahorse. She has also appeared on shows as herself such as Sesame Street (2016).

Halsey

Halsey in hte Be Kind music video

Halsey is another singer who has only recently begun trying to move into the movie industry. Sing 2 will see her play the secretive character of Porsha Crystal, a wolf that appears to be as stylish as they are skilled on the microphone.

Halsey has already made a little bit of an impact on-screen in Scooby-Doo and Guess Who? (2020) where she could practice some of her voice acting abilities. American Dad (2017) and A Star Is Born (2018) have also seen the performer make small cameos!
