Sin City 2 To Start Production In 2010?

For months now all we've really had on the Sin City 2 front is "it's happening... it's on its way... it's coming... at some point!..." Well, maybe not that exactly but you get my point. Back in May this year, we reported that Sin City 2 was finally moving forward, with Rodriguez saying he'd talked to "key players" about the sequel. A couple of months later Alexis Bledel (the blue-eyed girl from the first Sin City) talked about how her character would fit into the sequel considering her character was [SPOILER] presumably murdered by Josh Hartnett's "The Man" at the end of the first film. [END SPOILER] From what she revealed it leads us to believe it's going to be - as fellow Screen Rant writer Kofi Outlaw called it - a prequel, midquel and sequel.

However, despite those forward-thinking terms, it all seems like just talk, with no real confirmation of anything...

However, before we get to what form Sin City 2 would take (at least officially), it would be nice to know that it's definitely on its way, and for it to have more than just a "maybe... at some point" status label attached to it. We do have the following promising piece of news for you: Comics2Film at spoke exclusively to producer, Stephen L'Heureux, of Solipsist Films who apparently confirms that Sin City 2 will go into production in the second half of 2010.

As Matt Goldberg over at Collider says, I'll believe that when I see it...

On top of "confirming" the Sin City sequel's start date, he also revealed that unlike the first movie, where the graphic novels were used as basically the script and storyboards (before Watchmen did it, there was Sin City...), Sin City 2 would be based on an original screenplay by Frank Miller, with him co-directing alongside Robert Rodriguez once again. Somehow I doubt that Miller wouldn't base at least some of his script on what he's already written in such Sin City novels as "A Dame To Kill For." It doesn't really make much sense NOT to use them, does it?

Finally, L'Heureux spoke a bit about why it's taking so long for the long awaited, much anticipated Sin City 2 to get going:

"As simple as 'Sin City' seems, it's a very complex scheduling with all these actors and it's a very demanding shoot to be on a sound stage all day long... We have to space it for Frank [Miller]. There's also talk, of course, of 'Sin City 3'."

Whoa, hold up a minute - let the second one at least start shooting before you think specifically about of the third one...

I'm sure I'm just one of many movie fans who have been eagerly awaiting to experience more of the stylized hard-boiled world the first one gave us back in 2005 (yes, it really has been four years). After being conditioned by news that's not really gone anywhere for months, I'd started to give up hope we'd ever see Sin City 2. And although this isn't an absolute official confirmation (even if L'Heureux speaks about it as such) that it's going to start shooting next year, it is at least more concrete than some of the news we've had up until this point.

Taking this news as true: Are you glad Sin City 2 is finally going into production? Were you a fan of the first one? What part of the graphic novels would you like to see the movie sequel incorporate?
