The Sims 4 recently hit its eight-year anniversary, marking another year with no sign of The Sims 5. Previously, it was unheard of for the franchise to go more than a handful of years between mainline entries, but The Sims 4 shows no signs of slowing down any time soon. A recent announcement that The Sims 4 would become free to download revived rumors that something new must be on the horizon, although a recent announcement for a Sims event this October reiterated that the development team has years of Sims 4 content planned.
A recent Reddit post from user sawcebox has sparked new rumors, as it contains several photos of Simlish graffiti left behind after a Sims commercial filming. The pictures come from the Warner Brothers lot, and were spotted by the user during a tour. The graffiti includes the classic phrases like "sul sul" and "dag dag" as well as a painted plumbob alongside other, more generic imagery.
The Recently Filmed Sims Commercial May Not Be For The Sims 5
These new images have quickly gotten the rumor mill churning, with several theories over the Sims commercial, which will likely premiere at the Sims Summit in October. Of course, some fans think the most obvious answer would be a reveal trailer for The Sims 5, particularly because of previous reveal history - the first trailer for The Sims 4 debuted at Gamescom 2013 was also largely live action. However, it's been made clear by both developers and the recent insider interview that The Sims 5 is far from ready, and previously the franchise has never announced a new entry multiple years ahead of release.
Additionally, although it's a smaller detail, some fans have pointed out that the plumbob in the images most closely resembles the plumbob used in the current generation of the game, and the familiar green icon typically changes between each main release. Another popular theory is that the commercial reveal will actually be for a revival of the cult classic Urbz: Sims in the City instead due to the city aesthetic and a graffiti element of gameplay that was present in the original release. Sadly, all fans can currently do is speculate about what might be next for The Sims 4 until more is revealed this October.
