The Sims 4 team has reiterated that there are many future content releases planned for the game, meaning players shouldn't expect The Sims 5 to release anytime soon. Over the years, the game has offered an increasing variety of different ways to offer new content to fans. This includes four different sizes of DLC releases - Expansion Packs, Game Packs, Stuff Packs, and Kits - as well as Sims Delivery Express Drops, which are small additions of free content like new food and clothing that happen on a semi-regular basis. More Sims 4 Updates & DLC Means Sims 5 Is Unlikely

Sims 4 Sim with a shocked expression.

It's unknown what sort of content will be announced during this upcoming Sims 4 event, besides the fact it will deal in the realm of DLC, with the possible inclusion of Sims Delivery Express information as well. The most recent Kit for the game, Desert Luxe, released this week, marking the end of the Sims 4 three-month roadmap released earlier this summer. It's unclear which will come first - a new roadmap or the Behind The Sims Summit - meaning it could be several weeks before players know what's in store for the game. Currently, it's only clear what's not expected any time soon: The Sims 5.

There will undoubtedly be many Sims 4 fans who are disappointed by this news - a recent inundation of bugs and broken DLC for the game have lots of fans feeling resentment towards the fourth installment of the series and increased the desire for the franchise to simply start fresh with The Sims 5. However, many years later it's easy to forget the state The Sims 4 was in at launch, lacking many basic features like toddlers and pools, and if The Sims 5 is rushed it's possible the result would be no different. While recent DLC releases for Sims 4 like the My Wedding Stories pack have been incredibly buggy, the game as a whole is undeniably better than it was at release. At this point in time, it's most likely better for The Sims 4 to continue building off of its existing structure, rather than starting anew prematurely.
