Sims 4 player shared the strange storyline that has befallen their game's Landgraab family, where everyone has passed away or left except for their cat. This occurrence stems from the latest update to The Sims 4 Neighborhood Stories feature, which allows for random occurrence for NPCs, including death. Neighborhood Stories is one of the newest additions to The Sims 4, which was first released in 2014.

The Sims franchise includes many families that appear in every game and have their own detailed lore, and the Landgraab family is one of the game's most famous. As their name implies, the family owns a large amount of commercial real estate, and are credited as founders of the game's Sunset Valley. The family is rumored to have gotten their fortune in a suspicious manner, and in The Sims 4, Nancy Landgraab is even part of the Criminal career track. Neighborhood Stories was initially introduced in the fall of 2021 and added random life events that NPC Sims would consult the player about, such as changing careers or having a baby. The recent update expanded upon this, and made life events possible for NPCs without involving the player.

Reddit user bluevanillatea shared that their game's Landgraab mansion is now home to only a cat, with all other members nowhere to be found. Although it would be incredibly appropriate for such a mysterious family to perish as a consequence of their shady dealings, it's unclear whether the other former residents - Geoffrey, Nancy, and Malcolm - have died or simply moved away. The original Landgraab family doesn't have a cat as a member, which means at one point - due to the Cats and Dogs Sims 4 expansion pack being installed - someone in the family made the choice to not only adopt a pet but dress them in a green hoodie. The image of the cat as the sole Landgraab family member presiding over a huge mansion is incredibly funny, with many users joking about the cat maliciously plotting a takeover of the household.

The new autonomy available to NPCs has no doubt added a fun and chaotic new element to The Sims 4. With the initial update, nothing other Sims did came as a surprise to the player, as they would always be asked beforehand. With the recent update, Sims are now getting into all types of crazy situations for players to catch up on using the Check Neighborhood Stories interaction. The game has been out for over seven years now, and players are no doubt experiencing burnout and finding it hard to make The Sims fun again. As evidenced by this user's discovery, Neighborhood Stories has made the game less predictable and helped neighborhoods feel more alive.

Although this mansion-dwelling cat is completely unrealistic, that's part of the charm of The Sims franchise. The Sims 4 in particular was designed in a purposefully more cartoonish way than its predecessor, with lots of strange and silly possibilities like the ability to marry the Grim Reaper, or have a baby with the game's equivalent of Santa Claus included. The new autonomy element has helped add more wackiness to The Sims 4 and is a great way for burned-out fans to add more excitement to their gameplay since players never know what their neighbor will do next.
