EA has released a new update for The Sims 4, adding free Create-A-Sim items alongside over 1,000 new furniture and build swatches. The Sims 4 regularly releases new expansion packs and game content, alongside smaller free updates usually consisting of one or two items. The latest update, dated September 21, should change the game significantly for Sims 4 builders.

The Sims 4 has evolved a lot since it first released in 2014. The game now has dozens of expansion packs available, all of which add new gameplay elements alongside furniture pieces, Create-a-Sim items, and more. While EA is often criticized for its monetization approaches, Simmers are sometimes treated to free updates that aren't paid. Previous freebies for base game-only players have included a Sims 4 hot tub, as well as various smaller items for design and decoration for both Sims and their homes. Fans of the series may need to pay a lot for the whole Sims 4 catalog, but the latest update should improve the game for those who don't use expansions or mods.

In a new blog post, EA has announced that the September Sims 4 update introduces new Create-a-Sim items inspired by the game's next fashion DLC Kits, The Sims 4 Incheon Arrivals Kit, and The Sims 4 Fashion Street Kit. While the full Kits are paid, the update is free, and adds a handful of new items, including two full-body assets "inspired by the Fashion Street of Mumbai," as well as an additional bottom piece for Male Frame Sims, plus a new headpiece, tattoo, and bracelet. A further two full-body outfits and two new hairstyles have also been added from the "streets of Seoul." As well as Create-a-Sim items, the developer has introduced 1,200 new variants to 149 existing Base Game items in Build Mode. The new swatches include brighter, bolder colors, as well as more realistic and toned-down styles available across the Item Catalog. In the official screenshot below, new color variants are highlighted in green, showing off just a few of the added options.

Sims 4 Update Adds Free Create-A-Sim Items

Players of The Sims 4 will find the new swatches and Create-a-Sim items once they've updated their game. The new swatches should be of interest to builders, as many Simmers have complained about the lack of swatches available for lots of the title's in-game items. Prior to the new update, some pieces were available in a wide range of colors to suit any build, while other items had just a few variants to choose from, which could limit Sims 4 designs and creations. With more than 1,000 new swatches now available, players can expect to see even more creative Sims 4 builds in the future.

The new Sims update is one of many to come in 2021 alone. As well as patches, this year has seen the release of Expansion Packs including The Sims 4 Cottage Living, as well as Game Pack Dream Home Decorator, the Paranormal Stuff Pack, and the newest type of DLC, Kits, with five released this year already and two coming in October. The game continues to grow and evolve with the help of its community and their feedback, and while players wait patiently for The Sims 5, The Sims 4 is showing no sign of stopping anytime soon.
