The Sims 4 received new holiday content this week, with a free selection of items by means of a Sims Delivery Express drop. Since the game came out in 2014, EA has released a massive amount of content for The Sims 4, with Delivery Express updates being the newest method of delivery. Often shortened to SDX, this is the second Sims Delivery Express to be delivered to players, designed to add smaller amounts of new content to the game.

When it comes to The Sims, fans of the game are always looking for more content to further personalize their experience - the long-running game series is all about customization and individual user choices. EA has developed many different methods of content delivery over the years, varying in size and price. Paid expansion packs have been coupled with free updates and patches, adding everything from new worlds to new styles of gameplay-like scenarios to The Sims. The concept of Sims Delivery Express was announced in October, intended to be free updates of content that add to the game but aren't drastic enough to warrant a full game patch.

EA released their second SDX this week: an assortment of holiday items billed as a gift from The Sims 4's iconic Father Winter - its version of Santa Claus. The developer announced the release on The Sims Twitter, encouraging players to share the builds they create with the new additions. The delivery gifts players 9 new festive items to use for their Sims' holidays. These include holiday food items like fruitcake and eggnog, decorative bows, cozy fireside tools, and seasonal aprons for baking Winterfest - The Sims equivalent of Christmas - treats.

These new items expand upon holiday items already in the game - The Sims 4: Seasons introduced Sim equivalents of many holidays, like the aforementioned Winterfest, Valentine's-style Love Day, and Harvestfest - a Sims-style Thanksgiving. This addition of holidays - and the items that come along with them - into the game has added a tremendous amount of depth for players in terms of new narratives they can create for their Sims. While the items added by the SDX seem simple, the ambiance they help to provide can't be overlooked, especially for players who enjoy making intricate house designs.

With the release of the second Sims Delivery Express, players are starting to get a better idea of what EA's latest content concept will look like in the future. These new updates offer an easier alternative to full-fledged patches, an especially large boon for fans of using custom content in The Sims 4 - patches for the game often break any mods that have been added. This new, easier form of adding free content to the game has a lot of potential to help keep The Sims 4 interesting for fans.
