Clearly, some of the firefighters in The Sims 4 aren't fit for purpose, given the behavior on display in a gameplay video shared by a player. Firefighters joined the fun in a free Sims 4 update that went live early in June 2020; this particular content release coincided with the launch of the Eco Lifestyle expansion, which added sustainable living options, recycled decor, and world-changing ramifications that were contingent on a player's eco-friendly actions.

The Sims 4 firefighters should function in the same manner as real-world firefighters. When a fire breaks out, no matter how big or small, members of this in-game profession are supposed to come running to the rescue. All four of the mainline Sims entries have featured firefighters that players can contact whenever things get a little too heated. They've especially proven helpful to those learning cooking skills and such. But it seems that even digital firefighters have days where they aren't exactly at the top of their game.

A post from Redditor Enralis proves The Sims 4's fire and rescue personnel are not always up to snuff. The Reddit user's quick gameplay clip shows two firefighters standing in the middle of a living room whose couch is ablaze. One firefighter stands so close to the flames that he quickly catches on fire; the other doesn't pull out a fire extinguisher until their partner becomes overwhelmed. It's an interesting scene, one that likely ended horribly for all parties involved. See the video below for a glimpse at what The Sims 4's finest get up to when the flames become too hot to handle:

As noted by the caption accompanying Enralis' Reddit post, it's quite a shock to see someone behave this poorly on the job. Such is the nature of video games, though; this probably counts as one Sims 4 glitch that many a player has encountered since firefighters entered the mix over a year ago.

The Sims 4 first launched on PC in 2014, then migrated to PS4 and Xbox One consoles in the latter part of 2017. Electronic Arts and developer Maxis continue to support the simulation game, though players patiently await word of a potential fifth mainline installment. EA CEO Andrew Wilson once teased future titles would feature “social interactions and competition," yet official information about what's next for the series remains under wraps.
