The latest The Sims 4 DLC kits come complete with vacuum cleaners and retro workout clothes. This year, The Sims series of games turned 21. In honor of this milestone, The Sims developer, EA, rewarded its players with 21 free gifts as part of the anniversary celebrations.

The Sims franchise has come a long way since its original debut in 2000. The life simulation game that offered its players the chance to kick off the new millennium with neighborhood romances, money-making cheat codes, and the occasional removal of pool ladders has grown into a much more dynamic and engaging environment with every new release. While there are always plenty of options to create some ludicrous situations for any given The Sims family, and the money cheats are still high on the "to do" list for many a player, the chance to create more realistic sim relationships (as well as the enhanced aging process) offers deeper connections between The Sims players and their creations. The Sims AI have also become a lot smarter over the last 21 years. Now, they do not even need pool steps to get out of their watery would-be-tombs, as they can pull themselves up and on to the sides.

As with many modern games, EA is keeping The Sims 4 gameplay fresh for its patrons with regular new expansion packs and updates. The latest extras for The Sims 4 are three bite sized DLC kits. Revealed yesterday on The Sims YouTube channel, these kits include the cosmetic Throwback Fit kit, the build-based Country Kitchen kit and the gameplay focused Bust The Dust kit. The kits are available now and will set players back $4.99 each. The full reveal can be seen below.

Despite their very recent release, these latest The Sims 4 kits have already received some backlash from The Sims gaming community. Many feel that paying for the privilege to vacuum up a house, be it real or not, is not a wise investment of a player's hard earned money. And the community undeniably has a point. The base game alone is already enough to put a dent in any budget, and that's without the extra Stuff Packs, Game Packs and Expansion Packs that EA also sells for The Sims 4.

EA is not by any means the worst for microtransactions within games. The company has also released some free content for The Sims 4, such as the aforementioned gifts to acknowledge the series’ anniversary. Perhaps, however, if EA wants to continue keeping its The Sims community happy and coming back for more, less DLCs and more free content would be the better route to take.
