Giving players the opportunity to design the life they’ve always dreamed about, The Sims 4 has been steadily adding new DLC, updates, and expansions since its original 2014 release. Six years later, players are still spending countless hours (and tons of money) customizing their avatars and their towns.
There’s a ton of things a person can do with their life, both in the real world and in The Sims 4. In order to expand the possibilities, The Sims 4 has released various expansion packs with come with customizable features and different activities the player’s Sims can get into. The only problem? These expansion packs cost as much as the game itself, meaning they’re not something players will want to buy on a whim.
There are nine Sims 4 expansion packs in total: Get to Work, Get Together, City Living, Cats & Dogs, Seasons, Get Famous, Island Living, Discover University, and Eco Lifestyle. They’re available for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. There are actually a large variety of other DLC packs and content for The Sims 4, but expansion packs are different from game and stuff packs as well as the additional downloadable content. The expansion packs are also the most expensive type of additional content that can be purchased for Sims 4, and even though they all have the same price, it’ll certainly easily add up if a player chooses to purchase them all.
Cost Of The Sims 4 Expansion Packs
According to Electronic Arts' website, the prices for the expansion packs are as follows:
- Get to Work - $53.49 CAD / $39.99 USD
- Get Together - $53.49 CAD / $39.99 USD
- City Living - $53.49 CAD / $39.99 USD
- Cats & Dogs - $53.49 CAD / $39.99 USD
- Seasons - $53.49 CAD / $39.99 USD
- Get Famous - $53.49 CAD / $39.99 USD
- Island Living - $53.49 CAD / $39.99 USD

- Eco Lifestyle - $53.49 CAD / $39.99 USD
EA members receive a 10% discount, so players with the membership should factor the discount in with the cost of The Sims 4 expansion pack. On occasion, certain expansion packs will go on sale and can be purchased at a lower cost than others, so players looking to fill their collection without paying full price should keep on the lookout for good deals. However, if players choose to buy all The Sims 4 expansion packs at full price, they’ll spend a whopping $481.41 CAD or $349.91 USD. This doesn’t take into account local taxes, so expect to spend a bit more when all fees are included.
Considering The Sims 4 base game itself only costs $49.99 CAD (or $39.99 USD) it’s striking that the expansion packs cost just as much as the game. Players will have to have a hefty chunk of money available should they choose to buy a couple of the expansion packs, let alone all of them. It’ll cost players even more if they want to also get all of the franchise's stuff and game packs. Needless to say, The Sims 4 isn’t a cheap game to play. Considering how much The Sims 4 expansion packs allow players to do in the game when compared to the vanilla experience, however, it may be well worth the overall price in order to add them to one’s collection.
