Cottage Living is the eleventh Expansion Pack released for The Sims 4, and the pack brings the quaint charm of country life to The Sims. With animals to raise, cute communities to explore, and a plethora of new customization items, the pack is great for players looking to make their game a bit homier. One of the main aspects of this Expansion Pack is the improvements and additions made to the gardening system that introduce farming and Oversized Crops to The Sims 4.

In The Sims 4 Cottage Living, players can grow Oversized Crops on their lots that can be used for a variety of activities. Players can practice their canning skills and preserve or cook with their Oversized Crops. They can also enter these into the weekly Finchwick Fair to try and win rewards. Here’s how to plant and raise Oversized Crops in The Sims 4 Cottage Living.

How to Grow Oversized Crops in The Sims 4 Cottage Living

To begin growing Oversized Crops in The Sims 4 Cottage Living, players should first select the plot of land on which they want to plant their seeds. Oversized Crops can only be planted in Cottage Living’s new gardening plots, which can be purchased in Build/Buy Mode. Next, players can click on the plot to purchase Oversized Crop Seeds and Oversized Crop Fertilizer. Players can also buy various Oversized Crop Seeds from Agnes and Agatha Crumplebottom at their garden stall in Finchwick.

After planting the Oversized Seeds, players should remember to water the crops regularly and use Oversized Fertilizers on them whenever possible. Having Sims ‘Encourage Crop Growth’ frequently also increases the chance the crop will grow well. Players should also make sure they’re removing weeds and spraying for bugs whenever these interaction options appear. If players have The Sims 4 Seasons Expansion Pack installed, they should know that all Oversized Crops can be grown in every season, so they will never go dormant due to weather. They can, however, be affected by rain.

If players don’t take care of their crop properly, it’s possible it will only grow into a Small or Medium Oversized Crop. These smaller crops still have their uses though. Players can harvest up to nine small crops from one garden plot, and these are great for canning and cooking. Medium crops can be sold for more Simoleons than small crops, and they can be used for cooking and canning as well.

If players take care of their Oversized Crops properly, they’ll end up with a Large Oversized Crop. This crop will take up the entire garden plot and is great for players looking to win a prize at the Finchwick Fair’s Oversized Crop Competition. Large Oversized Crops can also be sold for a large sum of Simoleons.

If players want to submit their crop for competition at the Fair, they can harvest the crop on the day of the event. If harvested earlier, they will need to remember to put the crop in the fridge so it doesn’t spoil before the Fair. Oversized Crops can still spoil in the fridge if they are left there for too long, so it’s best to pick these crops on the day they’ll be used for maximum freshness.
