The upcoming The Sims 4 expansion, Cottage Living, has fans excited and eagerly awaiting its release. The Sims 4, which released in September 2014, was a highly-anticipated continuation of the Sims franchise. The game brought back and improved on many aspects of The Sims 3, including an improved Create-a-Sim tool, neighborhood travel, a new game engine and an improved building tool, all wrapped up in improved graphics. Other than pure anticipation for a new game in a beloved franchise, players were excited for the new possibilities that would come from new expansions.

Although it is almost seven years old, The Sims 4 passed 30 million players in 2020. This is partially due to the continuous updates, fixes and available DLC. In between other expansion packs, Maxis and EA release "stuff kits" that include a combination of new furniture, decor, activities and outfits focused on a theme. Both the expansions and item packs increase the immersion in the game. The most recent expansion pack, Snowy Escape, released in November 2020. Prior expansion packs include City Living, Cats and Dogs, Seasons and Discover University.

With The Sims 4 Cottage Living, fans of the game can expect more of the great content they're used to plus additions which have been much desired for some time. In the new expansion, players will be able to grow their own produce, forage for food in the wild, milk cows for fresh (and flavored) milk and gather eggs from chickens (via EA). Additionally, the expansion features a new neighborhood with a village (where players can enter oversized crops in a competition), pubs and parks. Based on the reaction to the announcement and trailer, players are excited to get their hands on the new content.

Although The Sims 4 has an expansion that brings pets to the game (Cats & Dogs), players are excited that there will be even more animals that they will have access to in Cottage Living. The expansion will feature animals that can be raised (like cows and chickens) as well as animals in the forest (such as wild rabbits, foxes and birds) that one can befriend. Players may even receive gifts and garden help for earning their trust. The expansion will be released on July 22 on all platforms.

This expansion adds a lot of welcomed basic changes too (ponds that can be built and swam in, for example). Some players are happy that an expansion is bringing so much new content, others are more excited about the new animals and interactions with them (specifically the bunny and cow are mentioned repeatedly amongst fans), but overall players are excited for this new The Sims 4 expansion. Keeping the fanbase and players excited is how to keep a game alive. For a game almost seven years old, Maxis and EA know what they're doing with The Sims 4.
