The Simpsons has become one of the most iconic television shows of all time. It's a pop culture phenomenon to the point where people who aren't necessarily fans of the show are still aware of who all the characters are and how they act. Fans and critics alike are divided on the direction the show has taken, but it's been more than 30 years, and that's a long journey to take without alienating someone.
While there are tons of classic jokes and lines that have become well-known, it is the fun personalities of each character that has made the show last as long as it has. So, within this list, we will take a look at which character from the series you are purely based on zodiac traits.
Updated on June 2nd, 2021 by Kristy Ambrose: When The Simpsons first came to television in 1989, nobody thought it would last well into the next century. There's plenty of room on the character roster to fit a few more into our list of Simpson's characters and their corresponding zodiac signs. Luckily, the intricate nature of the zodiac gives us the freedom to look at a few more unique personalities on The Simpsons with signs "on the cusp" or birthdays that fall on dates when the signs were in the process of changing. These types of personalities borrow traits from two zodiac signs but still have their own unique characteristics.
Aries: Bart Simpson
Bart Simpson is one of the most popular characters within the series and his mischievous ways do lead to a lot of fun throughout. There is nobody off-limit for Bart's pranks and he is constantly moving around and doing something because he has so much energy.
Whether it is skateboarding around or causing havoc at school, Bart's energy and passion for everything he does makes him a perfect Aries. Even though he doesn't tend to put any of that into his schoolwork, that doesn't mean he's not an Aries.
Taurus: Maggie Simpson
Obviously, due to the fact that Maggie Simpson is just a baby throughout the entire series, she doesn't really create much of a personality. However, something that is clear throughout the show is that Maggie is very stubborn.
Even though she hasn't developed much intelligence yet due to her age, Maggie has no problems in making it clear that whatever she wants, she will get, and if Maggie doesn't want to do something, she won't do it. It's one of the reasons she never talks and is what makes her a perfect Taurus.
Gemini: Marge Simpson
The mother of the Simpson family, Marge really is the glue that holds everybody together. While her life isn't always easy, due to the way her entire family behaves, she always manages to keep a positive attitude and works hard at whatever needs to be done.
That is what makes her a Gemini, as well as the fact she is a great communicator. This is another trait that Geminis have and is something that Marge really pushes throughout the show, especially with Homer. Nobody can decipher his nonsense except her.
Cancer: Nelson Muntz
Nelson Muntz is best known for being a major bully within The Simpsons, often causing Bart a lot of problems throughout the series. However, while he is happy to be quite a moody and vicious character at times, there is a flipside to Nelson.
At his core, he is a very emotional and sympathetic character who has quite a difficult upbringing, which really does explain a lot of his actions. However, having that split personality is a big reason why he's a perfect Cancer zodiac.
Groundskeeper Willie: Cancer-Leo Cusp
Wilie is always screaming or crying about something and drama is the defining trait of a person born on the Cancer-Leo cusp. He's always the character chosen to respond to any situation in an exaggerated way, regardless of how mundane it is.
Anyone who can scream passionately about rakes while ripping their shirt off would have to be a Cancer. Let's not forget about that mane of red hair and six-pack either, the hallmarks of the attention-seeking Leo.
Leo: Dr. Hibbert
Leos are notoriously very smart characters who are fantastic in positions of power as they make for brilliant leaders. While Dr. Hibbert isn't necessarily a leader of a group of people, he is the number one doctor in Springfield and is seemingly always around for an emergency, proving his intelligence.
But, alongside that, he is also a very happy and cheerful person even though his job brings a lot of stress. Leos are also known for having warm and welcoming personalities, and Dr. Hibbert has that in abundance.
Virgo: Apu
Apu is a firm favorite amongst fans of The Simpsons and while he might happily cheat his customers by changing prices and dates, there is no denying that he is a very hardworking individual. He is constantly working in order to provide for his family, as they are at the core of everything he does.
Virgos are known for being reliable, which Apu is with his friends, and his incredible work ethic also makes him an ideal person for this zodiac sign as well.
Libra: Lisa Simpson
Libras traditionally don't enjoy conflict and do their best to keep the peace amongst people. While Lisa Simpson does sometimes stir up some trouble, it is normally down to her morals and her deep beliefs that whatever she is doing is for the greater good.
Lisa is constantly trying to be fair and always brings tons of reasons to back up any arguments she may have, no matter how minuscule the problem might be. Her caring attitude and deep love for her family (including Bart,) all make her a perfect Libra.
Scorpio: Sideshow Bob
One of the main traits for a Scorpio is how determined they are, refusing to give up on anything no matter how impossible it might seem. That loyalty to a goal is something that Sideshow Bob certainly has, even if the thing he's determined about is killing Bart Simpson.
Scorpios are known for being polite and kind, but also have a flip side of being incredibly jealous and often seeking revenge. While Bob might occasionally fool people into thinking he has changed through being polite, there is always a scheme underneath his actions.
Mona Simpson: Scorpio-Sagittarius Cusp
Mona Simpson is actually based on a real person, Bernardine Dohrn, who spent years on the FBI's wanted list for being part of a radical group known as the Weather Underground in the early 1970s. Mona didn't appear very often, but this character left an impression on her family and the viewers.
That's typical of those born with the energy of Scorpio and the adventuring spirit of the Sagittarius. Mona loved her family dearly but she also had a fierce commitment to her ideals, a fine line that the Scorpio-Sagittarius personal typically walks.
Sagittarius: Barney Gumble
Perhaps it is the drink talking for him, but Barney Gumble tends to be one of the most honest characters within The Simpsons. He says it how he sees it and that leads to some hilarious moments as he is truly blunt about his feelings at times.
However, in the same token, for those that are close to him, Barney is a very loyal friend. He's reliable and while he might turn up drunk, he will always turn up when needed. That's what makes him the perfect Sagittarius.
Capricorn: Homer Simpson
Homer Simpson might be incredibly lazy when he actually gets to work, but he is hard working for his family. While he might argue with his children and not listen to Marge, without his family Homer is totally lost and that is why he's the ultimate family man.
Deep down he cares about his family endlessly and it is because of those traits that Homer is so beloved by audiences all around the world, and that's why he is an ideal Capricorn.
Ralph Wiggum: Capricorn-Aquarius Cusp
This is the sign of dreamers, perhaps so into their own fantasies that they're disappointed by real life. That makes this cusp between Capricorn-Aquarius the perfect place for Ralph Wiggum, the adorable but often clueless son of Springfield's top cop Chief Wiggum.
Ralph is a child who lives in his own world, and no wonder, because every time he ventures into reality someone breaks his heart. The Aquarius is deeply sensitive and whimsical, but that's tempered by a cynical Capricorn, which means that even this flippant little supporting character has his moments of gravitas.
Aquarius: Ned Flanders
Ned Flanders isn't the typical American man, he doesn't fall into the normal stereotypes, and that is something that Aquarius people rarely do. He is quite an independent person as well, having no problem getting any task needed to be done in order to enhance the lives of his sons.
Ned is also incredibly caring, even to those who show him no respect at times. However, his kind and loving nature makes him well suited to being an Aquarius and is why people really like Ned as a character.
Pisces: Abraham Simpson II
Abraham Simpson, who is more commonly known as Grandpa Simpson is an old and senile man, and perhaps it is his age showing, but he is certainly a very imaginative person. This is why he manages to connect with Maggie so well as they happily talk gibberish to each other.
His imagination and the fact he is wise and caring is what makes him a Pisces. He constantly works hard for others and even though he might be hard work and a little grumpy at times, he certainly is a beloved character.
