The Simpsons have been around for over 30 years, so it’s not surprising that they have made a couple of enemies along the way, both in the series and behind the scenes. Even the youngest member of the Simpsons family, Maggie, has her own nemesis, known as the “unibrow baby” – but what’s the story behind their rivalry? The Simpsons are one of the most notable families in Springfield, though not exactly for good reasons. Each member has done things that they would like to forget, and they have had an enemy at least once in their life.
The Simpsons have gotten in all types of trouble either separately or together, and not only in Springfield but in other places as well, and they have a list of enemies waiting for revenge. Perhaps the most notable one, especially after how many times he has come back to try and kill Bart, is Sideshow Bob, but the family has many others that have tried to harm them more than once. Homer, for example, had Frank Grimes (and his son, too, who tried to kill him), and Maggie also has a nemesis, even though she can barely walk and never talks.
Maggie’s enemy is best known as the “unibrow baby”, and has appeared in a couple of episodes as well as in the short film “The Longest Daycare” – but what’s his story and why is he Maggie’s nemesis?
The Simpsons: The Story of the Unibrow Baby
The unibrow baby’s real name is Gerald Samson, and he’s the exact same age as Maggie, though he has been seen standing steadier than Maggie. Both babies were born on the same day and at the same hospital, but there were some big differences in how they were treated there. At that moment, the Springfield General Hospital had only one diaper left, and it was given to Maggie, while Gerald was wrapped in the discount section of the Springfield Shopper. This made Gerald develop a rash that has persisted, and so he blames Maggie for this uncomfortable situation and spends a big part of his time plotting his revenge against the young Simpson.
Gerald’s first appearance was in season 5’s episode “Sweet Seymour Skinner’s Baadasssss Song”. When Lisa is explaining to Bart that everyone has a nemesis, she tells him that includes Maggie, who’s enemy is the baby with one eyebrow. Maggie is then seen looking through the window as Gerald is being pushed on a stroller by the Simpsons’ house, with the two glaring at each other. Gerald also has a history of causing public incidents, and was even rescued by Bart’s “wonder dog” Laddie. In a non-canon appearance in the future, Maggie and Gerald fall in love and get married, but it’s unclear if he’s the father of her daughter. Though he doesn’t appear much and can’t be really considered a recurrent character, Gerald is now included in The Simpsons opening sequence, so there will surely be more of his and Maggie’s rivalry in future seasons.
