The Simpsons Gets An Official Krispy Kreme Donut

advertising

The Simpsons is getting its own official donut from Krispy Kreme. Donuts have been a staple of Homer Simpson's "diet" forever, and have even factored into the plot of Simpsons episodes over the years. The season 5 "Treehouse of Horror IV" episode featured "The Devil and Homer Simpson", in which Homer, as one would expect, eats the "forbidden donut" and thus has to sell his soul to the devil. And in "Treehouse of Horror V", Homer finds himself in an alternate universe where humans don't know what donuts are - but they do rain from the sky.

Even one of Homer's signature catchphrases, simply "Mmm...", is often followed by "... donuts." Homer's sheer stupidity often shines through when merely in the vicinity of a donut. He simply can't live without them. So it should come as no surprise that popular donut brands would create their own Simpsons-inspired treats, and now Krispy Kreme can be added to that list.

The Australian branch of Krispy Kreme revealed through its official Instagram account on Tuesday the new "Simpsons D'ohnut" - an obvious play on Homer's iconic "D'oh!" catchphrase. Describing the new donut as "the 8th wonder of the world", it looks exactly like the distinctive pink-frosted, sprinkled donuts that have long appeared throughout the show's run. The Krispy Kreme website says the product is its signature glazed donut, but hand-dipped in strawberry-flavored white chocolate truffle and topped off with rainbow sprinkles.

The "Simpsons D'ohnut" will be available in Australian Krispy Kreme locations in New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, and Western Australia until April 30. But it won't be available just to Australian customers; you can order it online as well until 3PM (presumably Australian time) on April 27. This isn't the first time that The Simpsons, donuts, and Australia have converged; coincidentally, Bart Simpson's chalkboard gag in the classic season 6 episode "Bart vs. Australia" reads: "I will not hang donuts on my person."

It's fairly incredible that Krispy Kreme never made a Simpsons-themed donut until now. Donuts are practically a recurring character at this point. The release of the "D'ohnut" comes as the show hits the final stretch of its 29th season, so it seems logical to expect that many die-hard Homer fans worldwide will celebrate by getting their hands on one - certainly in Australia.

Despite Krispy Kreme's celebration of Homer's favorite food in Australia, the region has been through some recent turbulence with The Simpsons. In the fall it was removed from Australia's Channel Ten, which aired it for most of its run, and moved to the 7Mate network in January. But American audiences can still find the show on FOX, and if they're hungry enough, they can get the "D'ohnut" online. Consider it a win-win for everyone.

The Simpsons continues its 29th season with "Fears of a Clown" on Sunday @9PM on Fox.
