A new image of an upcoming episode of The Simpsons gives fans their first look at guest star, J.J. Abrams. Throughout its very lengthy, award-winning history, The Simpsons has done everything from stirring up laughs and controversy to offering guest spots to some of the biggest names in music and entertainment.

In recent years, there has been no shortage of conjecture and discussion regarding just how much longer the acclaimed animated series will last. It’s been well over twenty years since The Simpsons surpassed The Flintstones as the longest-running prime-time animated series in the U.S., and it’s been over a decade now since the series earned the title of longest-running American scripted prime-time television series. There doesn’t seem to be any sign of things slowing down in Springfield, and regardless of how many years the series airs for, the list of celebrities set to make an appearance on the program never diminishes. In the show’s most recent season, celebrities Michael Palin, Olivia Coleman and Paul Rudd have all turned up, and one upcoming guest in particular is set to attract plenty of attention.

That particular guest is none other than sci-fi filmmaker, J.J. Abrams. The first official image from Abrams’ upcoming episode, entitled, Do PizzaBots Dream of Electric Guitars? has now been made available, courtesy of TV Line. Abrams appears to have thoroughly defeated Homer in one way or another in the image, and the episode’s synopsis says only that “Homer tries to reunite a mechanical band from his youth, but J.J. Abrams beats him to it.” The new episode will air this coming Sunday on Fox.

Exactly what this “mechanical band” is remains a mystery, but given that Abrams is involved, it’s not hard to believe that this particular band deals exclusively with robots. It’s certainly one of the more intriguing premises for an episode of The Simpsons, and Abrams fans are sure to be treated to some very J.J.-specific jokes. The episode marks the first time that Abrams has appeared on the long-running animated series, though Abrams isn’t exactly a rookie when it comes to voicing animated depictions of himself. Back in 2012, the Star Wars sequel trilogy creator took the time to appear on hit series, Family Guy, poking fun at his storytelling abilities.

Fans of The Simpsons can also rest assured that the series isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. Fox has renewed the series for two more seasons, meaning that at some point in the near future, The Simpsons will reach 750 episodes. This is nothing short of amazing and it’s thanks to guest appearances along the way from stars like Abrams that ensure people will continue to come back for more from the world’s most recognizable animated family. Hopefully this upcoming episode will offer something particularly special to fans of both Abrams and The Simpsons.
