A law group deduces the overall cost of Homer Simpson's expensive medical bills after adding up the character's ridiculous accidents across the course of The Simpsons. Ever since its debut in December 1989, the series has become one of the most globally iconic shows of all time, creating recognizable characters such as Homer, Marge, Bart, and Lisa. The Simpsons is currently on season 33 and shows no signs of coming to a close in the near future.

Since the beginning of the series' run, Homer's clumsiness and idiocy have been a running joke amongst both the show's writers and its audience, eventually becoming a staple of the character's personality. From causing constant chaos at his place of work, the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant, to accidentally getting his entire town quarantined by the American government, Homer has certainly become one of animation's most accident-prone characters.

A recent study conducted by Downtown L.A. Law Group (via NME) looked into the various injuries Homer has sustained over the show's hundreds of episodes. The group managed to narrow down the character's most serious issues to brain damage, which would cost $1,525,500, paralysis, which would cost $508,904, and radiation exposure, which would cost $150,000. Overall, the study, which features other injuries like broken bones and electrocution as well, concluded Homer has sustained a whopping $143 million in medical expenses.

The Simpsons 2

Comedic violence has always been a staple of The Simpsons, even creating its very own Tom and Jerry in the form of Itchy and Scratchy, two characters that are constantly laughed at for their over-the-top violent tendencies. However, the violence that is portrayed between father and son, Homer and Bart, has been a controversial topic on the show for many years. It has become a running joke that Homer would choke Bart whenever he was angry with him, leading many audiences to become angry with the show for its portrayal of "joke" domestic violence.

The highlighting of Homer's many accidents throughout his time on The Simpsons has only solidified his place as one of animation's most infamous and clumsiest characters. With the show still moving full speed ahead and showing no signs of stopping anytime soon, it can only be assumed Homer's medical bills will continue to rise with each episode. Despite his many catastrophes, it's clear audiences continue to enjoy the misadventures of Homer, his family, and the other iconic characters of The Simpsons.
