Disney+ orders Simpsons episodes by theme as well as season. Things have been going smoothly for Disney’s new subscription streaming service. Despite some initial issues, the Mouse House appears to be working hard toward satisfying its customers.

This might not seem out of the ordinary for the world’s largest entertainment corporation, but maintaining a new service during a pandemic is sure to have its challenges. With recent statistics showing that Disney has now passed 50 million subscribers globally, it’s clear that Netflix has a real competitor in Disney. Still, there have been criticisms of Disney’s service. Well before the current state of the world was an issue, some subscribers were vocal about cancelling their subscriptions once The Mandalorian completed its first season. There have also been mistakes, such as streaming The Simpsons in a 16:9 aspect ratio rather than 4:3, which annoyed and angered many fans of the long-running animated series.

Nonetheless, it takes time to build a quality streaming service and rather than argue claims against it, Disney has chosen to quietly get to work on improving. The most recent evidence of this comes to us courtesy of journalist Frank Pallotta, via his Twitter account. It appears that Disney has decided to create themed box sets of Simpsons episodes, grouping them together based on topics such as predictions, travel, and sports. You can check out Pallotta’s original Tweet below:

In over twenty years of the series, The Simpsons has managed to tackle the aforementioned themes numerous times. Who can forget Homer skateboarding with Tony Hawk or the family’s disastrous (yet hilarious) journey to Australia? Of course, all these episodes were already available on Disney+, but by combing through the entire series and composing complete collections of different, recurring themes, Disney has made it much easier for fans to watch some of their favorite episodes without having to sift through the seasons themselves. If the new option proves to be a hit with subscribers, it’s easy to see this concept being expanded, and even used on other programs that Disney offers. However, in the case of The Simpsons, grouping specific episodes in this manner makes a lot of sense, given the huge number of episodes in existence. Exactly how fans will take to the concept remains to be seen, but as of this writing, it does seem like an idea that could yield positive results.

Disney recently revealed that The Simpsons’ aspect ratio will be fixed by the end of May, which, if that timeline is adhered to, will eliminate the sole major complaint against the service’s streaming of the series. Some may argue that Disney’s curating of Simpsons episodes is only being done to distract viewers from the mess that has been made with the aspect ratios. It’s unlikely this is the case, but even if that complaint did hold any truth, cueing up a marathon of sports or travel or music-related episodes of The Simpsons is a decent enough way to pass the time.
