Simon Cowell is creating a new musical game show in the United Kingdom called Walk the Line. The music producer got his start in reality TV as a judge on Pop Idol in the U.K. and then American Idol in the United States. He has since created shows of his own, including the Got Talent franchise and The X Factor. He also produced other reality shows like American Inventor, Celebrity Duets, Grease is the Word, Rock Rivals and The Greatest Dancer. Aside from reality competition shows, Cowell has also been involved in a couple game shows, including Red or Black? in the U.K., which aired for two seasons.

Cowell is currently a judge on America's Got Talent, alongside Howie Mandel, Heidi Klum and Sofia Vergara. Britain's Got Talent is currently on a one-year hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic. Considering he was a judge on Britain's Got Talent last year before an electric motorcycle accident sidelined him, it's assumed that he'll return next year, as long as his schedule allows. The X Factor in the U.K. is also on an indefinite hiatus while Cowell looks at how to revamp the show.

While some of his British shows are on hiatus, Cowell is looking to expand his TV footprint even further in his homeland. Variety is reporting that he is creating a new game show in the U.K. called Walk The Line. Cowell himself will be one of the judges on the panel. Music acts will perform throughout every episode. At the end of the night, the top two performing acts will be given a choice; they can leave with the cash they've already earned, or stay and continue playing the game. If they continue playing the game and end up at the top of the leaderboard, they will compete in the next episode against new acts. The acts will want to stay in the game as long as possible because that will mean they're earning more and more money.

The game show will include six episodes and is set to air on ITV. "We wanted to develop a show which will give contestants a life-changing cash prize if they win," AGT judge Cowell said in a statement. "Each show there will be a champion who must make a vital decision...It's the kind of decision that will have viewers on the edge of their seats--real event TV. I'm very excited at giving musical talent the opportunity to transform their lives like never before."

Variety mentioned that ITV Studios is dealing with the global roll-out. This indicates that there are potential plans to launch Walk The Line in other countries around the world. If the game show reaches the United States, NBC would be the obvious network to air it since Cowell already has a years-long relationship with the peacock network because of America's Got Talent. If NBC passes, FOX would be another good option since that network has been ramping up game show productions in recent years. Either way, game show and singing competition show fans are sure to be intrigued by Walk The Line's premise. Most game shows feature self-contained episodes. Walk The Line is different in that certain acts will continue on as they try to bank more money, which could keep viewers invested and wanting to tune in every week.
