Some fresh character and casting descriptions for Silver & Black have arrived. The film, along with Venom, represents Sony’s desire to make movies out of Spider-Man’s supporting characters now that Peter Parker has been inducted into the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Captain America: Civil War and Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Although the lead actors are yet to be announced, Silver & Black is sounding like an intriguing prospect. The fierce female antiheroes Black Cat and Silver Sable will be the focus, and director Gina Prince-Bythewood wants to “tell the story of two damaged women who are at war with each other but need each other to survive.” Think Thelma & Louise but with comic book characters.

And now, via That Hashtag Show, some hot new info has come to light. The source of news is being kept under wraps, so it’s impossible to know how accurate this info is. But That Hashtag Show has landed big scoops right on the money in the past. Their Silver & Black report covers characters, casting requirements and more. Explaining how the plot will kick off, they offered this insight:

“If there’s anything general audiences might know about Felicia Hardy, aka the Black Cat, it’s that she’s a master thief and it’s exactly that skill that puts things in motion in the film as Hardy has stolen from the wrong people and now everyone, including Silver Sable, is out to get her.”

The report also clarifies that Sable – who’s known in the comics a morally murky mercenary and the leader of the fictional nation Symkaria – is very much the main character. Allegedly, Sable's father, Ernst, and the Symkarian people are key figures in the movie, fueling the protagonist's "personal vendetta" against antagonist Mendel Stromm. Apparently, Stromm has conducted experiments on the Symkarian people, and these, coupled with dealings with Ernst, do not sit well with Sable. She goes on a warpath hunting for Black Cat, since she feels that will put her in contact with Stromm.

Furthermore, it sounds like Black Cat has been given an “enhancement” by the Stromm. Perhaps, in this universe, it’s experimentation at the hands of Stromm that gives Black Cat her luck-altering abilities. Whether or not that’s the case, Silver Sable will be coming at Black Cat hard, “working for the U.S. Department of Justice as a bounty hunter” and leading a team “which seems to be a nod to her comic book Wild Pack."

And finally, it seems that both of these characters will be fairly young. According to the report, the studio is eyeing actresses in the early-to-mid 20s for the lead roles. Casting young could be for character purposes, or it could mean that Sony wants these actors to stay in these roles for multiple future movies. Either way, news on that front should hopefully be coming soon.

Silver & Black doesn’t yet have a release date, but keep checking Screen Rant for all the latest developments.
