A new trailer for the upcoming Silo television show depicts a struggling underground dystopian community looking for answers about a desolate surface world. Based on Hugh Howey's novel series, the Apple TV+ science-fiction drama stars Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning's Rebecca Ferguson as Juliette, an independent hardworking engineer who works to maintain the many systems that manage the large silo which houses the remaining humans on Earth. Written by Mission to Mars scribe Graham Yost and directed by Passengers' Morten Tyldum, the series is set to premiere on the Apple streaming service on May 5.

Apple TV recently released the latest trailer for their upcoming post-apocalyptic dystopian series Silo.

When Juliette questions whether the planet's surface world is habitable, the community begins to distrust the rules designed to keep them safe. The silo's sheriff, Holston (David Oyelowo), uses fear to control the population, threatening dissenters with duty on the surface if they begin to question their perceived truth.

What To Expect For AppleTV+'s Silo

The underground community in Silo

Silo will debut on May 5 with the first two episodes, which will then release the remaining episodes each week until June 30, 2023. The AppleTV+ show will have a total of 10 episodes. Alongside Ferguson and Oyelowo, the ensemble cast also includes Common, Tim Robbins, Rashida Jones, Iain Glen, Avi Nash, Harriet Walter, and Chinaza Uche. Ferguson also serves as the show's executive producer.

The show is based on Howey's Silo novel series, which consists of three parts: Wool, Shift, and Dust. The series has nine short story books, which were then released as an omnibus, with the first being Wool. Wool includes the first five books, Shift comprises the next three stories, and Dust has the standalone final book. While it is unclear how deeply the upcoming series will follow the books, the inaugural season will likely foretell the events of the first novel, Wool, since it was the production's previous title.

With humans secluded in an underground survivor community, Silo becomes another addition to a genre popular, using not-to-distant dystopian post-apocalyptic future societies as their central conceit. Most recently, HBO's adaptation of the award-winning video game The Last of Us became one of the most-talked-about series this year due to the apocalyptic themes while still focusing on the humanistic aspects through Joel and Ellie. Silo seemingly hopes to see similar success, bringing a new twist to the dystopian story.
