Cindy Moon aka Silk quickly became a fan favorite spider-hero upon her fairly recent introduction in Marvel Comics, and now she has invaded the Spider-Verse in a stunning piece of artwork. This artwork couldn’t have come at a better time for the character as Silk is gearing up to appear in an all-new solo comic series as well as a live action television series to be released on Amazon Prime Video. As anticipation mounts for the upcoming Silk projects, this new piece of artwork perfectly captures why fans should be so excited to see more of the Spider-Man ally.

Silk made her first appearance as the spider-hero in 2014 with the issue The Amazing Spider-Man Vol. 3 #4 by Dan Slott and Humberto Ramos, but her origin was shown a few issues earlier in The Amazing Spider-Man Vol. 3 #1 and is directly tied to Peter Parker’s origin as Spider-Man. Cindy Moon, after getting into some trouble with her mother, was forced to go to the same nuclear waste disposal demonstration as Peter Parker. After a spider was blasted with radiation and bit Peter Parker on the hand, it then fell and bit Cindy Moon on the ankle before dying. After that further examination into the origins of Spider-Man, fans realize Parker wasn’t the only spider-hero born that day, and now Cindy Moon is truly getting the recognition she deserves beginning with a piece of stunning Silk artwork.

In a Tweet posted by comic book cover artist Rian Gonzales, the artist released their variant cover for the upcoming Silk #1. Along with the cover art, Gonzales also wrote in the post, “I was trying to imagine her invading the Spider-Verse!” which is apparent upon observation of the picture. Cindy Moon is sitting in front of graffiti art that reads “Silk” which is a clear reference to Miles Morales’ inclination towards that form of artwork which was shown extensively in the film Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, with Miles getting proper recognition in the reference with a tag on the wall that reads, “Miles was here!

Silk’s Spider-Verse reference is appropriate given the specifics behind her upcoming live action television series on Amazon Prime Video. The new series will be produced by Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse’s Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. Whether or not their involvement in the new series will have any impact on future Spider-Verse projects (in the form of Silk’s inclusion) remains to be seen, though the reference in the new cover art definitely plays with the idea of that being a possibility.

Even if Silk doesn’t appear in any future Spider-Verse projects, fans of Cindy Moon need not worry as the debut of her new monthly comic series is just on the horizon, a series to which this artwork is a stunning variant cover. Marvel Comics fans can grab an edition of the new Silk comic with this cover art by pre-ordering an issue at The Vault Comix website and can pick up the first issue of the Spider-Man-related series in comic shops as well as on a number of digital platforms January 19.
