A new report claims that revivals of classic series including Silent HillMetal Gear Solid, and Castlevania are in the works at Konami. The news follows months of alleged leaks and speculation that Konami is planning to bring back some of its bigger dormant IPs for the latest console generation. Multiple rumors of a new Silent Hill game have been shared by various sources throughout the year along with rumors of the return of MGS.

Konami is recognized as one of the biggest brands in gaming but has let many of its biggest IPs fall to the wayside in recent years. Castlevania hasn't seen a release since 2014's Castlevania 2: Lords of Shadow 2, while Metal Gear Solid's most recent main series title was 2015's Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain. There have been countless rumors of revivals of many of Konami's biggest games, but the company has yet to confirm whether or not they're true. Konami gave hope to Silent Hill fans with the 2014 announcement of Silent Hills, only for the project to be canceled shortly after.

There may still be hope for fans of the three classic franchises, with VGC reporting that all three Konami series are getting revivals. According to an unnamed source close to the publication, a "reimagining" of Castlevania is in development at Konami Japan with additional exterior support, while Virtuos is reportedly working on a Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater-related project. Further Metal Gear games are also apparently in the works,  more specifically, alleged remakes of the original games for modern consoles. VGC goes on to reaffirm previous claims that "multiple" Silent Hill games are in development, with one rumored to be coming from Bloober Team.

While the claims are unconfirmed, the report does align with a previous Konami announcement from earlier this year. Telling fans not to expect anything from the publisher during E3 2021, Konami confirmed it was in deep development on multiple key projects, though stated it had nothing to show or announce quite yet. Whether or not this means new Metal Gear Solid, Silent Hill, and Castlevania games are in development is up for speculation. At the time of writing, Konami hasn't responded to the new report.

Recent years have seen developers and publishers pivot further into remakes and remasters, in part to ensure sales. Greenlighting a new IP can be a financial risk if it fails to land with its intended audience, while rereleases of older games are almost guaranteed to sell well due to having an established fanbase. Konami holds some of the biggest brands in gaming in its catalog, and remakes and remasters could be a smart move. Fans of Silent Hill and other Konami-owned franchises will have to wait for official confirmation, which will hopefully be coming soon.
