A recent report is claiming that last week's alleged Silent Hill screenshot leaks have been pulled from a playable Silent Hill demo that is similar to P.T. Crafted by Metal Gear Solid creator and visionary filmmaker Guillermo del Toro, P.T. was a 2014 demo released for the PS4 that placed players in a haunting time loop and tasked them with solving a series of cryptic and bizarre puzzles. The demo turned out to be a creative way of announcing and promoting Silent Hills, which would have been developed by del Toro and Kojima and starred Norman Reedus.

Silent Hills was famously canceled following Kojima's highly publicized split with Konami, and the Silent Hill franchise has not seen a release since. However, there have been rumors about new Silent Hill content over the past few months, one of which being a possible remake of Silent Hill 2 from Bloober Team, the developers behind last year's game The Medium. Reports have also emerged that suggest a brand-new mainline entry in the franchise, something that has not happened since 2012. There have also been hints that an episodic Silent Hill game could be underway.

Naturally, many fans are most interested in the possibility of an all-new Silent Hill game, and it seems that this potential game could be getting a P.T.-style demo. According to Video Games Chronicle, these screenshots were pulled from such a demo, which was being referred to as "Sakura" internally. Sakura is allegedly being planned for a digital launch to promote the next Silent Hill game.

Leaked Silent Hill Images Come From P.T-Style Demo, Report Claims

One of the many elements that made P.T. such an effective promotional tool was the fact that nobody knew what it was at first, and the reveal that it was a "playable teaser" came as a shock to the gaming world. Things like the Konami Silent Hill trademark update and this report have effectively ruined any attempts at a repeat of this scenario, as the gaming world is now aware of Konami's plans, assuming Sakura is indeed real. It's not fair to blame Konami for this, of course, since the Silent Hill IP is now more closely watched, with gamers and gaming outlets prepared for indirect and obfuscated marketing tactics in the vein of P.T.

It's unclear if this supposed Sakura demo is meant to be in the style of P.T. from a gameplay perspective, but taking a few notes out of the Kojima playbook would likely be a good idea considering how hyped fans were following the reveal of Silent Hills. Alternatively, being too much like P.T. could be a bad thing, as it may signal a creative drought heading into this new era of the franchise. In either case, Silent Hill fans will have to wait and see.
