Developer Bloober Team has responded to recent rumors that it is working on a new Silent Hill title. The iconic survival horror series, published by Konami and mainly developed by Team Silent, began back in 1999 and spawned a number of sequels. The most recent installment, Silent Hill: Downpour, was released back in 2012.

A new Silent Hill title, collaboratively directed by Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima and film director Guillermo del Toro, began development in 2012. However, the project, titled Silent Hills, was cancelled after the release of a popular playable teaser game called P.T. While many fans of the concept still dream of the game's release, the reemergence of Silent Hills seems unlikely given the fact that Kojima and del Toro moved on to a new collaboration in the form of 2019's Death Stranding. Recent rumors now suggest that the next Silent Hill game will be developed by Bloober Team, developer of other horror titles such as Layers of Fear and Blair Witch. The rumors come from a new strategic partnership between Bloober Team and Silent Hill publisher Konami.

In a recent discussion with IGN, Bloober Team has revealed that it has moved on from two projects which fans believed to be potential Silent Hill titles. These previously in-development games, codenamed "Black" and "Dum Spiro," were both potential candidates for new Silent Hill installments. However, Bloober Team CMO Tomasz Gawlikowski confirms that "Black" is no longer in development and "Dum Spiro" has changed dramatically since early planning phases. While Gawlikowski did not confirm nor deny that Bloober Team is working on a Silent Hill game, he did state that neither of the studio's in-development titles is "based on themes or premises that have been circulating online in the last days."

While the future of the Silent Hill series is still in question, series creator Keiichiro Toyama is creating a spiritual successor in the form of a new game. The announcement has come about alongside some new concept art for the title, which is suitably grotesque. These terrifying body-horror designs will apparently be featured alongside a game that exhilarates players, similar to Toyama's other game such as Gravity Rush.

Silent Hill is one of the most iconic and longest-running survival horror franchises in gaming industry. The series' large and loyal fanbase is constantly anticipating a new installment, especially after the cancellation of Hideo Kojima's Silent Hills. While Bloober Team has essentially denied that it is developing a new Silent Hill title, fans can still expect an exciting new horror title from the developer in the future.
