New updates to the Silent Hill 2 remake’s store pages may hint that the release date is closer than once thought. The game was announced in 2022 during the Silent Hill transmission, but no details of a launch window were given. In the time since, official statements about a release date have not yet been made, but a recent change on the Silent Hill 2 remake's Steam page may indicate Konami is gearing up for a big announcement. As the first Silent Hill game in a little over a decade, a lot is riding on Silent Hill 2's remake, being something of a reintroduction to the series. Not to mention, the game will have to compete with other top-notch horror game remakes that have come out this year, namely Dead Space and Resident Evil 4. High fan expectations have likely put undue pressure on developer Bloober Team, but recent evidence suggests that a release date may finally be in sight.Related: 2023 Risks Bursting The Survival Horror Bubble

Silent Hill 2 Remake Could Release In 2023

Silent Hill 2’s Steam page has been updated, now displaying “Coming soon” in the release date section. Previously, the game’s release date was marked as “TBA.” Something similar is indicated on its page on the PlayStation Store, which reads, “Release date to be determined.” Dusk Golem, a prominent gaming insider, tweeted about the status change, stating that the “Coming soon” message on Steam is often used as a public-facing line covering the actual release date. This could indicate that Bloober Team and Konami have locked down a date and will soon announce when Silent Hill 2 will release.

Bloober Team Confirmed Silent Hill 2 Remake Isn’t Ready

The change to Silent Hill 2's release date on its Steam page may spell an exciting update to come, but it contradicts a statement made by Bloober Team on Twitter less than a month ago. After reports that the game was technically finished, the studio tweeted a clarification stating that the Silent Hill 2 remake is not yet ready for release. Bloober Team intends to take as much time as needed to ensure the game is of the highest quality possible. This statement was a good move to manage fan expectations, especially when it comes to a game as beloved as Silent Hill 2.

After a somewhat skeptical fan response to the Silent Hill transmission last year, it stands to reason that both Konami and Bloober Team sought to take a step back to guarantee that the release of the Silent Hill 2 remake is nothing but stellar. Hopefully, development on the game is nearing the finish line, as the Steam page update seems to indicate. However, as exciting as it would be to play the game soon, it is always preferable for developers to take their time releasing a highly polished product rather than rush it out the door.
