The God worshipped in Silent Hill is never named, but the myths surrounding it imply that humans created God rather than God creating humans, and she isn't exactly benevolent. Silent Hill is home to a cult known as the Order, which may return in Bloober Team's Silent Hill 2 remake and whose God is said to be nurtured by hatred. The Order is divided into four sects, and at least one of the sects plays the role of antagonist in Silent Hill games as they search for a way to bring Paradise.

[Warning: This article contains spoilers for Silent Hill 1 and 3.]Silent Hill and Silent Hill 3 both feature members of the Holy Woman sect from the Order as antagonists. Silent Hill normally looks like a town covered in eternal fog, but when the sirens sound, it turns into a place filled with nightmares. The alternate reality of Silent Hill is a result of the Order's treatment of Alessa Gillespie, who posses psychic abilities, putting the Order at the center of the horror.

As the foundation for the series, the original Silent Hill deserves a remake to show the twisted nature of the Order and their God. The activities of the Order and the results of the choices they make for the sake of their God are shown through Alessa's story. But it's Silent Hill 3 that shows the mythology of God, detailing her creation and some of her acts. The most important piece of information about God might be that she will return, and in Silent Hill and Silent Hill 3, that her second coming is almost realized unwillingly through Alessa and Heather, respectively.

The Dark God Of Silent Hill Could Be The Devil

Members of The Order, a cult from Silent Hill, and its seal, the Halo of the Sun.

Silent Hill keeps most information about God ambiguous, but one piece of dialogue in Silent Hill 3 has Vincent admit to Heather that the Order's God could also be the Devil. Contrary to fans wishing Silent Hill was dead, its cult seeks to resurrect God, but the methods required show that she seems to feed on suffering. To bring about her return, Alessa is set on fire by her mother, Dahlia, to the point that she should have died. God is shown to care about her survival, but not about the state of her mother. She keeps Alessa alive, but doesn't bother to help heal the fourth degree burns from which she suffers.

As Heather gains memories of Alessa in Silent Hill 3, she recalls calling the child in her womb a demon. Alessa had the power of premonition, and she comments that she knows the pain that God will bring once birthed, so she decided to - unsuccessfully - kill herself and her other half, Cheryl, to prevent it, dreaming of a peaceful world. The evidence that Harry and Heather find in their journeys create the image of a cold God that enjoys negative emotions.

A new Silent Hill game might not be seen for a while yet, but one could expand upon the cruel God worshipped by the Order. Harry and Heather prevented God from fully returning, killing her incomplete forms both times they encountered her, but the Order still believes that she will come back and deliver them to a paradise born from suffering. The true nature of this dark God might never be revealed, but Silent Hill and Silent Hill 3 portray her as, if not the Devil, then a powerful demon.
