Sigma Comics has launched a Kickstarter to help finance the next issue of Here Comes Calico, featuring Punisher-style antihero who crusades for animals. The publisher has found success using the platform, including attention from industry luminaries such as Klaus Janson. Now, on the eve of what promises to be Here Comes Calico’s biggest issue yet, Sigma has once turned to Kickstarter. In his civilian identity, Calico is Hector Gil, a former boxer and mixed martial artist, who takes it upon himself to become a crusader for those who seemingly have none. Sigma has published three issues of Here Comes Calico to date.

Sigma Comics was founded with a unique editorial mission, one not seen in traditional North American comics: to raise awareness of, and help eradicate, animal abuse. Founder H.H. German wanted to tell rich and compelling stories that confronted the real-world horrors of animal neglect and abuse. Furthermore, German founded Sigma with the idea that its books would be reasonably priced; in a time when single issues can cost upwards of five dollars, Sigma’s single print issues are priced at $2.99, with digital copies going even cheaper. All of this works to help forward the company’s mission of helping animals.

Sigma Comics’ Kickstarter is currently live, seeking to help raise funds to cover the costs of Here Comes Calico’s fourth issue, which will see the titular hero confront his first supervillain. The company is providing awesome perks for backers, including print and digital copies of not only Here Comes Calico’s fourth issue, but previous issues as well. The Kickstarter page also provides fans with a look at the issue’s cover, showing Calico at the mercy of this mysterious new villain, as well as a look at interior art. Both are shared below, making it clear that Calico is every bit as committed to retribution as Marvel's Frank Castle. The issue is written by H.H. German, with art by Javier Orabich and colors by Daniel Grimaldi; the cover is by Garnabiel.

Here Comes Calico is a unique type of anti-hero, one who does not hesitate to use brutal, skull-smashing force, all in the defense of animals. In the hands of others, such a premise would be played for laughs, but Sigma is playing it serious, and for good reason. Every day, animals are neglected, starved and beaten, with many ending up dead. This is not a matter to be taken lightly, and Sigma Comics realizes this, creating the perfect character to bring the issues surrounding animal welfare to mainstream comic audiences. Here Comes Calico #4 is set to expand that audience even further.

Sigma Comics’ editorial mission is stated in their motto: “Humans have superheroes. Animals don’t. That’s about to change.” Sigma Comics' first character - the brutal, Punisher-style antihero Calico - embodies this mandate, and the publisher has launched a new Kickstarter to help continue the series.
