After the player characters' dojo is attacked and their sensei killed, Sifu takes gamers on an action-packed quest for revenge against those responsible. Taking inspiration from classic action cinema, the game includes hundreds of different kung fu moves and combos which players must master as they fight through legions of hostile thugs. The journey is long and difficult, but Sifu's unique resurrection mechanic lets players push on after defeat. Each death ages the player character by several years, decreasing maximum health but increasing attack power to change the flow of battle. Several fan-made creations, like a Sifu mod starring Marvel's Daredevil, have used Sloclap's title as a platform to create alternate action experiences.
Like the Daredevil mod, a new Sifu mod from Nexus Mods user Halfmillz allows players to become the spectacular Spider-Man. Shown off by Halfmillz via YouTube, the mod sees the wall-crawling superhero effortlessly take down legions of foes using lightning-fast combos. The agility and power of Sifu's protagonist is already reminiscent of Spider-Man, so the mod manages to fit perfectly into the relentless title. Halfmillz has recreated both the friendly neighborhood hero's classic spandex and the iconic black suit, making for a truly robust Marvel martial arts experience.
While fans make their own amazing adjustments to Sifu, Sloclap has announced that official post-launch support is also in development. An upcoming Sifu update will bring difficulty modes and accessibility options, allowing a wider range of gamers to seek revenge through combat. While the title was highly praised upon release, many players did criticize the lack of accessibility options and the inability to adjust difficulty. Sloclap will soon rectify these issues, however, making Sifu a more well-rounded experience for a wide range of players.
