Netflix's Sierra Burgess Is A Loser assembles a cast full of familiar faces led by Stranger Things alumni and Riverdale star Shannon Purser. Following their massive hit from last month with the film adaptation of Jenny Han's To All The Boys I've Loved before, the streaming giant is releasing another teen romantic comedy, this time with an original material.
Officially announced way back in 2016, Sierra Burgess Is A Loser mines narrative inspiration from the classic Cyrano de Bergerac play where a case of mistaken identity results in a romantic relationship involving the school's biggest loser and a heartthrob. Directed by Ian Samuels with the story written by Lindsey Beer, the film examines the interesting concept of catfishing in this day and age where social media dating is the norm by presenting both sides of the story.
SHANNON PURSER AS SIERRA BURGESS
Academically brilliant but socially awkward, high school senior Sierra gets accidentally entangled with the quarterback of the rival school and catfishes him. Played by Shannon Purser, who Stranger Things fans know as the show's season 1 scene-stealer, Barbara "Barb" Holland. And although there are no plans for Barb to return in the Netflix series, fans can catch the actress in Riverdale, where she has a recurring role playing Ethel Muggs.
RJ CYLER AS DAN
Dan is Sierra's best friend, who she first confided in about her tricky situation. While he's supportive, he also serves as the voice of reason amidst the fraudulent activity she's involved in. The character is played by RJ Cyler, who is known best for playing Bill Cranston aka the Blue Ranger in 2017's Power Rangers film. He also appeared in Everything, Everything and White Boy Rick.
NOAH CENTINEO AS JAMEY
Charming and romantic, Jamey comes into contact with Sierra when he mistakenly texted her number. He eventually develops romantic feelings for his phone pal, not knowing her real identity. Starting his acting career playing Dallas in Disney Channel's Austin & Alley, Noah Centineo slowly built his portfolio with parts in The Fosters and T@gged. But he became a household name thanks to his role in Netflix's To All The Boys I've Loved Before where he played Peter Kavinsky opposite Lana Condor's Lara Jean Covey.
KRISTINA FROSETH AS VERONICA
The high school's cheerleader, Veronica is very pretty and popular among her peers. She eventually agrees to help Sierra to continue keeping up the charade to catfish Jamey, and in the process, the two develop a unique friendship. She's portrayed by Norwegian actress and model, Kristina Froseth, who starred in 2017's Rebel in the Rye and Prey.
Will Peltz as Spence - Will Peltz plays Veronica's manipulative college boyfriend, Spence. His acting credits include appearing in Men, Women & Children, The Outcast, and horror film, Unfriended.
