In 2001, DreamWorks' Shrek became an instant success. What followed were three more movies, short films, games, and a television series. The witty sense of humor throughout the animated fairy tale parody makes it one of those movies that are enjoyable for all ages.

In every Shrek film, Shrek has to defend himself, his swamp, and his friends and family from various antagonists. Each enemy has their strong suits but it's hard to say they're more powerful than Shrek since he's always defeated them. Shrek might not be easy on the eyes for some, but he sure can outsmart anyone who crosses his path. Who tripped him up the most?

Rapunzel

Rapunzel appeared in Shrek the Third as Prince Charming's girlfriend and a fake friend of Fiona's. She lured Fiona and her friends to Charming as an evil scheme. With Charming by her side, Rapunzel was gearing up to become the future Queen of Far Far Away.

During the play that she and Charming were starring in, Rapunzel becomes embarrassed when one of Shrek's fighters pulled on her hair, revealing that she was bald. If embarrassment was enough to make Rapunzel give up and run for the hills, she's no match against Shrek.

Dragon

Dragon raids the church in Shrek

Dragon was a former enemy of Shrek's. She was protecting the castle that Princess Fiona was in and was willing to kill anyone that tried to rescue her. After a nerve-racking battle between Dragon, Donkey, and Shrek, the two best friends were able to defeat the dragon by using a collar.

Despite her fire-breathing ways, she couldn't break the chain. Dragon eventually fell in love with Donkey and was no longer an enemy to Shrek. But if she ever wanted to hurt him, it would take one blow of fire to get the job done.

Monsieur Hood

Monsieur Hood was a parody of Robin Hood. In Shrek, he led the Merrymen on a mission to rescue Princess Fiona on behalf of Lord Farquard but was easily defeated. After and his Merrymen sang a song about their reasons for kidnapping her, Princess Fiona knocked him out. Once he was out cold, it was on to the Merrymen.

However, it's assumed that Shrek and Monsieur Hood put their hard feelings behind them because he was shown in the background of Shrek and Fiona's wedding.

King Harold

King Harold shouting at the dinner table in Shrek 2

King Harold was Fiona's father and Shrek's father-in-law. As the King of Far Far Away, King Harold had a ton of power but he didn't have the magical power that others did. He always wanted a "normal" life for his daughter, but when she married Shrek and officially became an ogre, his dreams were dashed.

Instead of accepting his daughter for who she was, King Harold tried to change the situation by hiring the Fairy Godmother to change reality. When his plan went awry, he realized he couldn't stand between Shrek and Fiona and gave up. He passed away in Shrek the Third but was on better terms with Shrek by then.

The Merrymen

The Merrymen appear in Shrek as the followers of Monsieur Hood. While Shrek and Donkey were walking Fiona through the woods after rescuing her from her tower, the Merrymen invaded and tried abducting Fiona. However, once Monsieur Hood was beaten, Fiona used her kickass martial arts skills and defeated the group.

Being a strong fighter is necessary to go against Shrek, and if th Merrymen are defeated by one round of fighting, they're no match for the power couple. It should also be said that Monsieur Hood's henchmen were more powerful than he was.

Witches

The Witches are one of the few enemies of Shrek's that have appeared in all of the movies. They gravitate to the antagonist and do what they can to take Shrek down.

Funny enough, the Witches were one of the many magical creatures that were sent away to the swamp with Shrek in the beginning. By the sequel, they were seen in the background at the Poison Apple but by Shrek the Third, they teamed up with Prince Charming. With green faces and magical abilities, the Witches were a strong part of Rumpelstilkin's army in Shrek Forever After but as always, Shrek came out on top.

Prince Charming

Prince Charming was the son of Fairy Godmother and the supposed future king of Far Far Away. His dreams were dashed when Shrek beat him to the punch and married Fiona. However, Charming still had some tricks up his sleeve.

His mother used her magical spells to help him become king but when she died, he could only rely on other villains who wanted power. When it came time for Charming to go head to head against Shrek, he proved himself incapable of defeating him. With a sword in his hands, Charming stabbed at Shrek but completely missed his body and slid in between Shrek's arm. No matter how hard Charming tries, he can't defeat Shrek.

Lord Farquad

Shrek Lord Farquad Tortures Gingerbread Man

Lord Farquad was the main antagonist in Shrek. As the ruler of Duloc, he needed a queen by his side and chose Princess Fiona as his intended. With Shrek's help, he rescued Fiona from her tower and was excited to marry her. Unbeknownst to him, Fiona was an ogre after sundown and fell in love with Shrek on their adventure back to Duloc.

Farquad had all the help in the world to keep Shrek away from ruining his big day with Fiona but it didn't work. Before he and Fiona could say "I do," the dragon came in and gobbled him up. Prior to his death, however, he had enough henchmen doing his dirty work to make him a serious threat.

Rumpelstiltskin

Rumpelstiltskin and Shrek in Shrek Forever After

Rumpelstiltskin was Shrek's biggest enemy in Shrek Forever After. He was a dwarf with enough magical powers to transform Shrek into an alternate universe.

Because of his fancy verbiage and sneaky ways, Rumpel was able to trick Shrek into wanting a different life. He never intended for Shrek to learn that true love's kiss would break the curse but with the help of his fellow ogre's, he did. Shrek found Fiona, defeated Rumpel and his team of bad guys, and got his life back with his three kids. As simple as true love's kiss sounds, Rumpelstiltskin's alternate universe was a hard one to crack. It's surprising Shrek and co. were strong enough to defeat him.

Fairy Godmother

Fairy Godmother's time was cut short in the Shrek universe but she was a beloved antagonist. While Rumpelstiltskin and Lord Farquad were magical and strong, there was no way of tricking Fairy Godmother. She was the fairest and the strongest of them all. Not only did she have eyes everywhere but she had a spell for every kind of situation. She was always on-the-ball and knew what needed to be done to get her way. In fact, it was because of her own powerful magic that she died.
