HBO's Watchmen had a big first season, gaining a cult following and bringing the forgotten Watchmen comics back in the spotlight. Taking place directly after the events of the comics where Ozymandius summons a giant squid to kill millions, we see the world recovering and a new age of superheroes.
Angela or Sister Knight is at first a mysterious character but soon learns her destiny and her heritage. Every episode was full of suspense and dramatic moments for just about everyone to enjoy whether you're a comic book fan or not. Smallville
Arguably the show that started the superhero tv show trend, Smallville focuses on a young Superman in his days before taking on the mantle and flying around in a red cape and blue tights. Clark Kent is just discovering his powers and his Kryptonian history as he saves the world.
Many fans love the show because just about every episode references a DC character and cameos from some of our favorite superheroes like The Flash, Aquaman, Cyborg, and the Green Arrow.
Like the heroes in The Watchmen, they have to take matters into their own hands after they realize the fate of the world cant is helped by local law enforcement. Both shows deal with Godlike beings wanting to fit in and are normal despite their clear advantages.
Titans
This show like the name suggests is about the young branch of DC superheroes, Teen Titans. In the comics, the Teen Titans are made up of mostly sidekicks of the Justice League and the show follows that for the most part while also adding in their own creative touch to it.
Like Watchmen, Titans are a group of heroes that take matters into their own hands to save the world and prevent certain chaos. They are both based on DC comics so it's very possible to even see a crossover of these characters although it's probably unlikely.
The Flash (2014)
His name is Barry Allen, to the outside world he’s an ordinary forensic scientist, but secretly he’s the fastest man alive. The Flash focuses on the second incarnation of the superhero Barry Allen and his adventures saving Central City.
Like Angela, Barry is seen as just any normal person on the outside but secretly dawns a mask to save others. Although both characters are almost complete opposites, they both share a similar goal of making the world a better place.
The Lone Ranger (1949)
Hooded Justice in Watchmen got inspiration from a masked man who took justice into his own hands and therefore started the superhero movement that the show is based on. The hero in the show is loosely based on The Lone Ranger, an old western vigilante who takes matter into his own hands while wearing a mask.
It's a classic that inspired many old western movies and even a live-action movie with Armie Hammer and Johnny Depp.
Batwoman
Although you can make a case that any Arrowverse show can be on this list due to it being superheroes, but Batwoman shares the most similarities and both have a female protagonist as their hero.
Both Kate Kane and Angela are no strangers to the chaos and danger that goes with heroism and are both calm under pressure and very confident in their skills. Although it might be reckless, both ladies get the job done and take on the big bad.
The Mandalorian
The first of many of the Star Wars Universe spinoff show, The Mandalorian follows a disgruntled bounty hunter who is forced to run after saving a young, yet a powerful child who was set to be probed and tortured.
The show itself doesn’t share many similarities but the characters and the idea behind the shows are very similar. Like Watchmen, The Mandalorian is based off a successful movie and the protagonists are both tough cookies that have trouble opening up.
Angela and the Mandalorian are victims of their past and are solely independent until they meet the right person that helps them open up.
Walker, Texas Ranger
Another older show that still makes a huge impact today, Walker Texas Ranger is about a group of Rangers who protect their city from the delinquents and criminals of their small Texas Town. Although it doesn’t revolve around masked heroes or superpowers beings, the entire team of Texas Rangers are well equipped with killer martial arts you will have to see to believe.
If that’s not enough to entice you, the show’s protagonist is the Chuck Norris. Watching 45 minutes of him roundhouse kicking criminals is more than enough to keep you entertained until season 2 of Watchmen.
Treadstone
A spinoff of the Bourne franchise, Treadstone focuses on a new hero with similar abilities as Jason Bourne. Although the show didn’t receive good reviews, it’s still an action-packed and adrenaline-pumping thriller with a lot of cool fight scenes.
It might not be binge-worthy, but the visuals and effects make it a must-watch.
Ray Donovan
Ray Donovan isn’t what you would call a hero or even a good guy but for entertainment value, this show is a must-watch. Ray Donovan is a show that follows a shady man who’s the go-to for celebrities and athletes to make their problem go away.
In a world of social media and fast-spreading rumors, business is booming for him but as successful as he gets, he still can't escape his past. He becomes an unlikely hero and the journey to that is a fast-paced show of full entertainment.
The Boys
A comic book show that shows heroes aren’t always good and can easily use their power to advantage. Sound familiar? Well, it’s loosely the plot to The Boys which is a comic based on a world where superheroes are part of a business scheme and they are nothing like the heroes we know.
From sexually assaulting, to straight murdering, The Boys heroes are not someone you’d want your kid to look up to and like Watchmen, the heroes are narcissistic and selfish.
