The Trumpeter makes another appearance in the Shin Megami Tensei series as part of the Return of the True Demon DLC for Shin Megami Tensei V. The Trumpeter is the ninth demon that players will face as part of the DLC, and he is the last demon that can be summoned as an ally after he is defeated. The final demon that is part of the Return of the True Demon DLC is the Demi-Fiend. Before he can be faced, however, players will have to prove their worthiness to the Trumpeter.

The Trumpeter has made an appearance in every Shin Megami Tensei game since Nocturne, the installment that saw players control the Demi-Fiend as the protagonist. Returning as a DLC boss, the Trumpeter is one of the toughest opponents that players will have to encounter throughout the entire game, not just the DLC. For those who have decided to face the Trumpeter on the hardest difficulty setting in Shin Megami Tensei V, precise strategy is the only way that the Trumpeter can be beaten.

Unlike the demons players will have to face before him, the Trumpeter has absolutely no weaknesses to any affinity. Furthermore, he resists Fire, Ice, Electricity, and Force affinities while being completely immune to Light and Dark affinities. The Trumpeter will use every type of attack in Shin Megami Tensei V, including Allmight. This second to last boss fight can only be completed in the end game as well, as the Trumpeter is at level 73.

Shin Megami Tensei V Trumpeter Stats

Defeating the Trumpeter requires largely buffed physical attacks, plenty of healing, and routinely switched-out demons. Nahobino will actually act as a healer during this fight, and the character should be at least on-par with the Trumpeter's level. The group of demons that can help defeat the Trumpeter in Shin Megami Tensei V are Lachesis, Yoshitsune, Lakshmi, and Yamata-no-Orochi. Compared to other SMT games, this fight against Trumpeter is a challenge.

To defeat the Trumpeter, Yoshitsune will need to be the primary attacker with the Hassou Tobi physical attack. This attack sees Yoshitsune attack with multiple strikes, and has the potential to deal massive amounts of damage. Yamata-no-Orochi and Lakshmi will be constantly changed every turn during Nahobino's turn. Yamat-no-Orochi should apply buffs to Yoshitsune, while Lakshmi heals the team. Lachesis is responsible for debuffing the Trumpeter, and buffing Yoshitsune's physical attacks whenever possible.

While it might seem like a good idea to have at least one other attacker, the buffs and debuffs applied to Yoshitsune and the Trumpeter, respectively, will provide enough stat changes that make it beneficial to only use one attacker. Like previous Shin Megami Tensei games, defeating the Trumpeter unlocks the ability to fuse with him. Should the day come when Shin Megami Tensei V adds online battles, the Trumpeter will be one of the best demons to use against other players.
