The Netflix small-screen re-imagining of the 1986 movie She's Gotta Have It has now been officially renewed for season 2. The series, like the film, is about a young woman trying to balance her job, her friends, and her three lovers, and her search to stay true to herself. DeWanda Wise stars as Nola Darling, juggling the rich and handsome Greer Childs (Cleo Anthony), the alpha-male investment banker Jamie Overstreet (Lyriq Bent), and b-boy bike messenger Mars Blackmon (Anthony Ramos).

She's Gotta Have It, with its progressive polyamorist lead, is still a groundbreaking concept and the first season was critically acclaimed and even won an award from the African-American Film Critics Association. Depite only premiering on Netflix in November, the series has already been confirmed for a second season.

Wise posted her video on January 1st, with the caption "Back ta werq! Season ✌? is OFFICIAL!!! Can’t wait to return to BK. Congrats to aaallll us. ✊?????#HappyNewYear #ShesGottaHaveIt ?".

Given the success of the first season of She's Gotta Have It, it's not too surprising that there will be a season two. She's Gotta Have It has been praised for including polyamorous characters and a predominantly black cast, two things which are not about to change anytime soon. Wise's portrayal of Nola Darling is also a big hit, as Nola is a complicated, passionate and outspoken woman and Wise really does her justice.

With season one of She's Gotta Have It only ten episodes long, the fans were definitely left wanting more, and a second season promises to deliver. Not only is there more of Nora's own story to tell, but the stories of a unique Brooklyn neighborhood, gentrification, success and its definition in New York, and plenty of other themes in the series mean that there is plenty more to explore.

At the moment, no premiere date or additional details about season two of She's Gotta Have It has been revealed, although it's likely that the second season will have a similar length to the first. As a comedy/drama series with little to no CGI to add in post, and a short season length, we're hoping that the next installment lands on Netflix sometime this year.
