New Posters: 'Sherlock Holmes 2,' 'Tower Heist,' 'The Grey,' & 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre'

Hollywood has opened the marketing floodgates this morning with new trailers for Sherlock Holmes 2 and Piranha 3DD as well as a myriad of new posters for an especially diverse set of upcoming films.

Check out the one sheets and banners for the aforementioned Sherlock Holmes sequel, entitled A Game of Shadows, the Ben Stiller ensemble comedy Tower Heist, the indie action-drama, The Grey, starring Liam Neeson, and the next bloody installment in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre series.

Sherlock Holmes

Possibly one of the most anticipated films of the Holiday film season, due in large part to Robert Downey Jr.'s renewed ability to drive ticket-sales (no matter which cocky and abrasive, yet charming, onscreen personality he depicts), Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows ups the ante with the official on-screen appearance of longtime Holmes-antagonist Professor Moriarty (played by Jared Harris) - who was just an uncredited shadow in the first film. However, no doubt the biggest draw of the movie will be the always entertaining pairing of Downey's Holmes with John H. Watson, M.D (Jude Law) as depicted in the new Game of Shadows character banners.

Tower Heist

While The Avengers will no doubt sport the most impressive ensemble cast of 2012 - in 2011, the bar was set a little lower. The upcoming Ben Stiller comedy, Tower Heist sports a bizarre mix of star power - including appearances by Oscar nominees Gabourey Sidibe and Casey Affleck as well as slapstick comedy vets Eddie Murphy and Stiller, among several others.

Despite some lackluster trailers and contrived comedy set-pieces, we haven't ruled Tower Heist out yet - since it's still entirely possible that, if the mismatched cast rises to the occasion, the on-screen entertainment could rise above the film's thin premise.

The Grey

While it's still unclear if we'll actually be seeing Liam Neeson return (even in a new flashback) in 2012's The Dark Knight Rises, the actor still has and especially busy year ahead of him - with headlining roles as Zeus in Wrath of the Titans as well as Admiral Shane in Battleship. That said, while those two films are expected to turn large profits at the box office, it's hard to imagine that either role was particularly challenging for Neeson, who is notably capable of deeper performances.

As a result, it comes as no surprise that Neeson has been talking up his role in The Grey - an action-drama set in the frozen wilds of Alaska following a plane crash as a small band of survivors must fight for their lives and face-off against a hungry and persistent wolf pack. The basic premise could have birthed a terrible film but early buzz surrounding The Grey has been pretty positive - with Neeson's performance getting a lot of the credit (and possibly accolades come awards season).

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D

Originally thought to be a prologue to the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre film, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D is supposed to follow an alternate version of the story - featuring, obviously, a new string of murders. It's hard to imagine the film is going to break a lot of new ground - especially depending on how the filmmakers intend to utilize the 3D format.

That said, until we know more, expect The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D to serve up it's fair share of jump-scares and disgusting on-screen murder mayhem.
