Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows will be in theaters in just a few weeks, which is why Warner Bros. is going all-out with their marketing push for the sequel to Guy Ritchie's 2009 reboot of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's famed detective.
We recently published a gallery of images from Sherlock Holmes 2 - but if nearly fifty still images weren't enough for you, then you're in luck: today we have about 9-minutes of clips from A Game of Shadows to share.
In this second installment, Sherlock Holmes (Robert Downey Jr.) finds himself caught up in the biggest case of his career: investigating a string of seemingly random global calamities that, when examined up close, reveal a pattern of manipulation, murder, blackmail and deceit that Holmes believes can be traced back to the machinations of one Professor Moriarty - who might well be the puppet master that pulled the strings of Holmes' battle against Lord Blackwood in the previous film.
However, as Sherlock and his companion Dr. Watson (Jude Law) try to unravel Moriarty's web, they quickly find themselves caught up in it, like two flies facing certain doom.
Will the help of newfound allies like gypsy fortuneteller Sim (Noomi Rapace) and Holmes' older brother Mycroft (Stephen Fry) be enough to bring down Moriarty? These clips from Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows suggest that the detective certainly has his work cut out for him, this time around:
Guy Ritchie did a good job reinventing Holmes for modern movie audiences - though the Screen Rant staff was admittedly split over how well the story of the first film was conceived (or not). This time, however, the script by Michele and Kieran Mulroney looks to be full of intrigue with its cat-and-mouse chess game between the brilliant mind of Holmes and the mad genius of his nemesis Moriarty. That cast is pretty strong across the board, and even the newcomers seem to have caught on to the chemistry and wit that made the first film so entertaining. Should be a good time at the movies this holiday season.
Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows will be in theaters on December 16, 2011.
