"More of what you loved last time" might as well be the marketing tagline for the upcoming Warner Bros. sequel, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows.
Trailers and TV spots released for the film so far have focused largely on selling it as having more of everything that moviegoers (by and large) enjoyed in the first Sherlock Holmes - including, many a scene with Holmes (Robert Downey Jr.) being clever and kicking ass, often with the assistance of Dr. John Watson (Jude Law).
A new featurette released for the Sherlock Holmes followup focuses a bit more on two additions to the (acting) party: Jared Harris as Holme's sinister opponent, Professor Moriarty, and Noomi Rapace as the gypsy Sim, a mysterious woman who figures into Moriarty's latest (and, potentially, greatest) evil plan.
Here is the basic setup for Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows:
When the Crown Prince of Austria is found dead, the evidence, as construed by Inspector Lestrade, points to suicide. But Sherlock Holmes deduces that the prince has been the victim of murder–a murder that is only one piece of a larger and much more portentous puzzle, designed by one Professor Moriarty.
Holmes eventually meets up with the fortune teller Sim, who (after the he saves her life) joins forces with Holmes and Dr. Watson, assisting them as they move to prevent Moriarty from executing his plan - one which could "change the course of history."
With that in mind - check out the new featurette for A Game of Shadows below:
Director Guy Ritchie is being quite honest in this new clip: A Game of Shadows will basically feature everything that the filmmaker's first Sherlock Holmes movie had (murder-mystery plot mechanics, witty banter, stylized action, and explosive set pieces) and make it even more plentiful or flashier - in the hopes that moviegoers will enjoy this new cinematic roller coaster ride across 19th century Europe.
All things considered, the sequel will likely be successful,= when it comes to achieving that goal. Warner Bros. certainly doesn't seem to doubt that, seeing how the studio has already gotten the ball rolling on Sherlock Holmes 3...
Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows arrives in theaters around the U.S. on December 16th, 2011.
