Netflix releases the She-Ra and the Princesses of Power season 4 trailer and posters ahead of its debut on November 5. The reboot of the ‘80s series sees teenage warrior Adora defect from the megalomaniacal Horde after discovering a magic sword that transforms her into the titular mythic hero, and subsequently joins the rebellion to save the world of Etheria from evil domination.

Netflix's She-Ra season 3 of the decidedly LGBT-oriented show ended with Queen Angella sacrificing herself to save everyone from being trapped in a collapsing alternate reality, and season 4 will show us Glimmer as Queen of Bright Moon and leader of the Rebellion. Her rise in power and responsibility is paralleled with that of Catra, who is now in a comparable position as co-commander of the Horde, while Adora will further explore her connection to Etheria and make a discovery that will change her perception of what she thought she knew. All of which comes against the inexorable threat of Horde Prime, the starfaring warlord of whom Hordak is an inferior clone, and his vast armada.

The She-Ra and the Princesses of Power season 4 trailer was posted to the Netflix Kids & Family YouTube channel after it debuted yesterday at New York Comic Con. A voiceover from Madame Razz, the slightly batty old sorceress who aside from a brief flashback in season 3 has not been seen since season 1’s eponymous episode that introduced her, reinforces Adora’s importance to the world, while tension and danger promise big changes. The posters show the myriad She-Ra characters largely as they have been seen previously, with a notable exception of Glimmer, whose bright purple cape and leotard have been changed to a more mature outfit almost identical to that worn by her mother, along with a new hairstyle more muted (although still sparkly) than the pink and purple previously seen. Meanwhile, Catra also sports a new hairstyle and wardrobe, giving her an overall appearance that’s much darker and more streamlined.

The season also sees the introduction of Double Trouble, a character designed for the original series but was ultimately never used, although did make an appearance in the accompanying toy line. They are the green-skinned figure to Catra’s right in the poster, and has been described as a non-binary shapeshifting mercenary who Catra will utilize as an advisor and bodyguard.

Although the trailer is short and doesn’t show much, it teases mounting drama and excitement from a series that already has plenty of both, and there will likely be further full-length one at some point over the coming month. Glimmer’s emulation of her mother’s clothing taste likely ties in to the tendency of people who lose a parent at a young age to try to emulate them in an attempt to partially fill the void they left behind and remain feeling close to them even though they are gone. Catra’s appearance and clothing being less ragged is possibly an indicator that she is in far better control of her impulses and more at peace with who she is after having accepted that she and Adora will never be friends again.
