What to Expect From She-Ra and the Princesses of Power Season 3

She-Ra Season 3

Netflix's She-Ra and the Princesses of Power season 2 is out now, but what can fans expect from a potential season 3 of this animated TV show? Netflix first announced their animated reboot of She-Ra in late 2017, bringing in Eisner Award-winning cartoonist Noelle Stevenson to shepherd the project. For the series, Stevenson and her team redesigned She-Ra from the character who appeared in the 80s cartoon Masters of the Universe as the long-lost sister of He-Man.

Netflix's She-Ra and the Princesses of Power season 1 premiered November 2018 and the series was well received by critics and viewers alike. The animated series stars the voice talents of Aimee Carrero as Adora/She-Ra, Karen Fukuhara as Glimmer, Marcus Scribner as Bow and Aly Michalka as Catra. After announcing the She-Ra season 2 premiere date earlier this year - and unveiling the She-Ra and the Princesses of Power trailer at WonderCon 2019 - the show finally returned on April 26.

In She-Ra season 2, the Princess Alliance and the Evil Horde continue to battle for the land of Etheria. Meanwhile, Adora trains to become the strongest She-Ra she can be, as Catra attempts to prove herself to Hordak. Now, for fans wondering what will be next after season 2, here's what to expect from a potential She-Ra and the Princesses of Power season 3.

Netflix Hasn't Renewed She-Ra and the Princesses of Power (Yet)

Netflix is notorious for keeping the future of its TV shows under wraps, not even revealing She-Ra had been renewed for season 2 until they unveiled the sophomore outing's premiere date. Given that, it's possible Netflix won't reveal whether She-Ra will return for season 3 until they announce the premiere date. However, considering how well received She-Ra has been, along with the fact that Netflix typically allows its animated offerings multiple seasons, it seems incredibly likely the show will be renewed.

When Will She-Ra and the Princesses of Power Season 3 Release?

With only five months between She-Ra seasons 1 and 2, it's possible season 3 could premiere as soon as September. However, the amount of time between seasons may also depend on how many episodes are included. Season 1 was 13 episodes, while season 2 was seven, and if season 3 is more than six or seven it may take longer to produce. So it remains to be seen when She-Ra returns, but it'll likely be before the end of 2019.

SPOILERS for She-Ra and the Princesses of Power season 2 ahead

She-Ra season 2 ends on quite a cliffhanger. Not only have She-Ra, Glimmer and Bow discovered the meaning of the First Ones message they received, Catra is in a dire situation and an unexpected enemy (ally?) appears at Bright Moon. At the end of episode 3, a mysterious First Ones base is seen transmitting a signal with a message that Adora translates to mean "Serenia, portal Mara." In the finale they learn Serenia is referring to the Crimson Waste, where the First Ones base is located. Season 3 will no doubt see She-Ra and her friends travel to the Crimson Waste to try to unravel the meaning of the rest of the message.

However, the final moments of season 2 revealed Shadow Weaver traveled to Bright Moon after escaping the Fright Zone. Shadow Weaver stands over Adora's bed as she sleeps, but it's unclear if Shadow Weaver is an enemy or ally at this point. The penultimate season 2 episode, "Light Spinner," revealed Shadow Weaver had been good at one point, and only turned to Hordak's side when her methods of battling the Horde were rejected by the other sorcerers. Perhaps she's ready to switch sides once again.

Last, it remains to be seen what becomes of Catra after being tortured by Hordak. Although it's unlikely Catra will die since she's a main character, she's now out of favor with Hordak and potentially imprisoned by him. Catra still has an ally in Scorpia, but it's unclear whether Catra will try to escape the Fright Zone or attempt to win back Horda's favor. Meanwhile, Hordak will no doubt continue to work on his portal technology with Entrapta, and it's likely that will somehow tie into She-Ra's own mission regarding portals. However, fans will have to wait and see what exactly happens in a potential She-Ra and the Princesses of Power season 3.
