The latest episode of She-Hulk: Attorney At Law got in a good laugh at toxic Marvel fans and the viewers are loving it. Ever since She-Hulk: Attorney at Law was announced at D23 in 2019, some audience members reacted negatively to the news the same way they did the announcement of Jane Foster as Thor in both the comics and movies or the announcement of an all-women Ghostbusters team in 2016. Some believed it was an attempt to pander to a modern audience even though She-Hulk as a character has existed since the 1980s.She-Hulk: Attorney at Law faced such negative criticism from toxic Marvel fans that it was review bombed before a single episode aired. This was a similar tactic that was used on both Ms. Marvel and Captain Marvel. She-Hulk: Attorney at Law got a good laugh in on the outrage as in the third episode "The People vs. Emil Blonsky", one scene shows how people react to She-Hulk in the MCU being the same as in the real world, complaining about how they took the male hero and gave it to a woman and how they should just make a new hero.Related: Every She-Hulk Review Bomb Criticism Is Easily SmashedAudiences have reacted very positively to She-Hulk: Attorney at Law incorporating the online outrage into the series. Many of the comments noted how commonplace and repetitive these criticisms have been over the past few years and that the writers incorporating them feel topical. One account even noted that some of the comments in the episode are directly pulled from the comment section following the series announcement in 2019. Here is a small sampling of the positive reaction the joke in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law has been received.

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law incorporating fan outrage into its story is similar to 2016's Ghostbusters, which featured a scene of the characters reading negative comments which were pulled directly from the comment section of the first trailer. The fact that both She-Hulk: Attorney at Law and Ghostbusters were both projects with women protagonists is certainly a motivating factor for the hate they receive online. Yet toxic fans have grown more vocal and taken their anger out on many new entries in the Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, and Star Trek franchises for the simple act of expanding the race and gender roles of characters.

The audiences that She-Hulk: Attorney at Law is mocking will likely not be happy with this joke made at their expense, but they were never going to be happy with the show. While this subset of fans will make racist and sexist comments to the creators and stars of these projects, they will perceive anything against them as an unfair attack like when Ewan McGregor called out racist comments Moses Ingram was receiving for Obi-Wan Kenobi. Yet despite all the complaints they have about She-Hulk: Attorney at Law or the recent female superheroes added to the MCU, Marvel Studios is smart enough to know that this is only a small subset of their audience and the much larger majority is enjoying these new additions.
