In She-Hulk: Attorney At Law, Jennifer Walters and her cousin Bruce Banner get involved in an accident when a spaceship from planet Sakaar blocks their vehicle on the road. This leads to Bruce’s blood getting in contact with Jennifer’s hence she acquires the same Hulk-like powers as him.

In the MCU, Planet Sakaar (home to the Sakaarans) has been briefly featured in Thor: Ragnarok and Guardians of the Galaxy, though details about it have been scarce. In the comics, the planet has featured more prominently in Hulk storylines.

Hulk Once Becomes King Of The Planet

Hulk and Cairea married on Sakaar.

In Incredible Hulk #88, the Illuminati expels Hulk from Earth after he goes on a rampage in Las Vegas. He accidentally lands on Planet Sakaar, where the leader, the Red King, enslaves him and forces him to become a gladiator. After various victorious, the Sakaarans start worshipping him, enabling him to overthrow the Red King. Sakaar is thus nicknamed Planet Hulk.

It’s a storyline that’s quite similar to the one in Thor: Ragnarok. However, one of the most powerful Asgardians appears nowhere in the comic version of the storyline. Instead, Hulk gets all the glory, even going as far as to marry Caiera and make her his queen. However, since Hulk is seen on a Sakaaran spaceship in episode 2 of She-Hulk: Attorney At Law, these events could well transpire on screen.

Hulk Has A Sakaaran Son

Skaar rises from the ruins of his planet

Hulk leaves Sakaar without ever knowing he has a son, but in Skaar: Son of Hulk #1, a boy named Skaar is revealed to be Hulk’s son. He then travels to Earth to find his father.

Skaar is undoubtedly one of the best versions of the non-Bruce Banner hulks as he is very intelligent and a formidable fighter. Since he doesn’t like his father very much either, he becomes a tool for the typical father-son battles in fiction. Through him, fans get to see a villain that matches Bruce in every possible way, leading to more entertaining fights.

There Are Two Ethnic Groups In Sakaar

Among the citizens are the red-skinned Sakaaran Imperials (the ruling class) and the grey-skinned Shadow People (warriors and farmers). Both groups are loyal to the Red King since he is believed to be the long-awaited messiah known as Sakaarson.

The Sakaaran way of operations appears to mirror that of the ancient Roman Empire. There are not only gladiatorial battles, but the ruling class lives more lavishly than ordinary citizens. However, both groups co-exist in harmony. There are similarities in dress codes too.

Sakaaran Technology

Planet Sakaar is quite technologically advanced. Among their best gadgets is the obedience disk, which the Red King uses to control Hulk when he accidentally lands on the planet.

A difference can be seen in how technological advancements happen in Sakaar compared to other planets. Unlike other planets where the citizens come up with technological inventions by themselves, Sakaarans get theirs by plundering spaceships that accidentally land on the planet. Since the citizens have a decent IQ, they make some improvements on the bits of tech they find.

The Humanoid Races

Miek declares war against Hulk in marvel comics

Two humanoid races reside in the harsh deserts of Sakaar. These are the “Natives” and the “Spikes.” Both races have been conquered, hence they accept the rule of the Red King.

The races are clearly modeled after bees since members emerge from the millions of eggs laid by their queen. Even though these races generally don’t get to do much, they have proven useful on some occasions. The “Spike” have also spiced things up from time to time by rebelling. And they always prove to be formidable opponents since they have the ability to possess other beings.

Previous Rulers

Hulk fights The Red King in Marvel comics

Before the Red King took over, the planet was ruled by his father, Angmo. Knowing his son was weak and foolish, Angmo attempted to kill him so that the throne wouldn’t be inherited by the wrong person, Sadly, the Red King survived.

While the Red King is shown to be a formidable villain, his future actions prove that his father was always right about him. It’s during his reign that Hulk takes over, hence putting an end to the Angmo lineage. It’s also during the Red King’s reign that the Spikes stage a grand rebellion.

Destruction Of The Planet

The planet gets destroyed in Incredible Hulk #712, when one of the greatest Marvel villains never to appear in the MCU, Galactus defeats Skaar and his forces. Sakkar is then restored after the re-emergence of the Time Stone.

Regrettably, relief doesn’t come with the restored planet since yet another tyrant like the Red King emerges. The new ruler named Warlord also sets up gladiatorial battles and unites everyone into a single class under his rule. On the brighter side, the emergence of the new tyrant gives Hulk the opportunity to once again prove himself as a true superhero to whom no challenge is too difficult. Just as he defeated the Red King, he also defeats Warlord.

The Geography

Hulk jumps above Planet Sakaar in Marvel comics

Sakaar is part of the Tayo solar system and is the fourth planet from the star, Tayo. It’s the only planet in this particular star system that’s inhabited by sentient life.

On the surface, Sakaar is one of the most geographically diverse planets, full of mountains, tropical forests, and deserts. The planet’s strong gravitational pull also explains why spaceships tend to crash on it on the regular. So far, 10 different species from other planets have found themselves on Sakaar.

The Sakaarans Colonize Earth-7121

In an alternate reality, Caiera becomes infuriated after Hulk dies from an explosion. She thus rallies all Sakaarans and travels with them to Earth to punish the Illuminati members that sent him to Sakaar. The Sakaarans then overpower everyone and end up colonizing Earth,

It’s a sad storyline for fans of some of the best Marvel heroes since the Sakaarans totally obliterate the Earthlings. The invasion also results in the deaths of Doctor Strange, Iron Man, and Mister Fantastic, while the rest of the heroes are kept as slaves. Even sadder is that Caiera does all this in honor of the Hulk.

Hiroim The Shadow Priest

Hiroim heads to Earth in Marvel comics

Among the most prominent citizens of Planet Sakaar is Hiroim. For a long time, he serves as the right-hand man of Angmo and later the Red King.

Though Hiroim is aligned with the Red King, he is shown to have morals. It’s because of these morals that he actually refused to kill the Red King when Angmo ordered him to. Like most of Marvel’s popular heroes, Hiroim has plenty of heroic moments, notably one where he heads to Earth and helps defeat rogue S.H.I.E.L.D. agents.
