Mark Ruffalo is reportedly confirmed to be appearing in the upcoming She-Hulk series on Disney+. Last week, Ruffalo himself said that he was in “preliminary talksto reprise his role as Bruce Banner. The last time we saw Banner, he had put “the brains and the brawn together,” becoming Professor Hulk. In the wake of Avengers: Endgame, Marvel and president Kevin Feige have been characteristically tight-lipped about the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Courtesy of some key deaths and a retirement, Avengers: Endgame brought the stories of three key Avengers to a close.

While fans found the arcs of Iron Man and Captain America satisfying, there were many fans disappointed with Black Widow’s abrupt end. Her upcoming solo film, a prequel set between the events of Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War, should do a better job of concluding that character’s story. The future of the MCU won’t focus on three of the original six Avengers, but the futures of Hawkeye, Thor, and Hulk remain uncertain. As Disney+ begins to implement MCU-based television shows, we may see those arcs come to a close as well. Hawkeye and Thor have already been confirmed to appear in a show and movie in Phase Four.

According to The Illuminerdi, Mark Ruffalo will be also be involved in Phase Four of the MCU. The actor has officially signed on to return as Bruce Banner/Hulk in Disney+’s She-Hulk. It is unclear whether he will be a guest star or regular in the six-episode series; his new deal with Marvel may even include appearances on the big screen. For now, all we have to go off of is Marvel’s casting description of Jennifer Susan Walters AKA She-Hulk. It sounds like Marvel is going to remain faithful to what we know of the character.

She-Hulk

In the comics, Walters is a lawyer concerned with superheroic law. She receives her powers after a blood transfusion from her cousin, Bruce Banner. In this way, Walters’ origin story is reliant on Bruce Banner/Hulk’s inclusion. Similar to Professor Hulk in Avengers: Endgame, She-Hulk retains her consciousness while always being in her Hulk form. Whether this is how we see the character in the Disney+ series remains to be seen; however, given Ruffalo’s current standing as Professor Hulk, that depiction seems likely.

With shooting set to begin in August, Marvel has yet to announce an actress as Walters; the casting call describes Walters as an Alison Brie-like character. This has led many fans to promote the casting of Brie herself. Marvel and Feige clearly want an actress with comedic ability who can headline a series and star in blockbusters; it has already been said that She-Hulk will be in a future installment of the Avengers franchise. Ruffalo’s involvement in She-Hulk could see Banner in a mentor role. Like Kate Bishop taking up the mantel of Hawkeye in that Disney+ series, She-Hulk should see another key Avenger passing the torch to a new hero.
