Warning: Contains SPOILERS for She-Hulk: Attorney At LawShe-Hulk: Attorney At Law episode 2 properly introduces audiences to Holden Holliway and his superhuman law firm. After the season premiere's superhero origin story, She-Hulk relaxes into the "lawyer show" format originally promised by Jennifer Walters (Tatiana Maslany) in episode 1. Fired from her role as Deputy District Attorney after Hulking out in court to save jurors and fellow attorneys from Titania (Jameela Jamil), Jen has to re-enter the job market, which is made more difficult by her She-Hulk identity having been so publicly revealed.

Just as things seem hopeless for Jen, a chance meeting with Holden Holliway in her regular bar promises her an exciting new job opportunity as head of a new division at the law firm GLK&H. Jen's new role does come with some drawbacks, as she's expected to negotiate bail for the Hulk's former foe, the now-human Abomination (Tim Roth). As head of GLK&H's superhuman law division, Jen is also expected to carry out her duties as She-Hulk, rather than attorney Jennifer Walters.

Created by Dan Slott and Juan Bobilo in 2004, both Holden Holliway and GLK&H are a big part of the She-Hulk comics on which the new Disney+ show is based. It was therefore inevitable that they would form a similarly large part of the She-Hulk show, especially given the "lawyer show" format. Here's everything that viewers need to know about Holden Holliway and GLK&H.

Who Is Holden Holliway?

Steve Coulter as Holden Holliway in She-Hulk: Attorney At Law

Holden Holliway is a senior partner of the law firm Goodman, Lieber, Kurtzberg & Holliway. In both the original comics and the She-Hulk MCU show, Holliway is responsible for bringing Jennifer Walters aboard the firm. While the MCU show is yet to shed more light on Holliway's backstory, there are some intriguing clues to potential plots in later She-Hulk episodes within his comic arc.

In She-Hulk, the superhuman law division of GLK&H appears to be a shrewd commercial move on the part of Holden Holliway. In the changing world of the MCU where there's an ever-increasing amount of superhumans, such a unique department gives GLK&H an edge on their rivals. In the comics, however, Holden Holliway has more personal reasons for providing legal representation to wayward superhumans. His granddaughter is Sasha Martin a.k.a the minor-villain Southpaw, and Holliway becomes passionate about proper legal representation for superhumans because of this.

Southpaw's criminality is also what drives Holliway to hire Jennifer Walters to lead the new division at GLK&H, beyond She-Hulk's skills as tackling superhero legal problems. He believed that, as She-Hulk, Jen could be an inspirational influence on Southpaw, convincing her to abandon her criminal way of life. Holliway's desire to turn his granddaughter's life around is foiled by an attack on GLK&H by Titania. With Titania due to return in She-Hulk episode 5, it's entirely possible that future episodes will explore Holliway's family life and the origins of GLK&H's new division in more detail.

GLK&H Law Firm In Marvel Comics

GLKH help Howard the Duck sue George Lucas

In the comics, Goodman, Lieberman, Kurtzmann & Holliway, or GLK&H for short, is a Manhattan-based law firm specializing in superhuman law. They've been relocated to Los Angeles for the She-Hulk TV show, but the upcoming cameo by Daredevil in She-Hulk suggests that their Manhattan office is in operation in the MCU. The firm has won cases both for and against key Marvel characters. They've represented Howard the Duck in a movie rights lawsuit against the filmmaker George Lucas, Spider-Man in a defamation suit against J Jonah Jameson and the Daily Bugle, and they successfully beat Doctor Strange in court by highlighting their defendant was under the influence of the eye of Agamotto.

Given showrunner Jessica Gao's curbing of audience expectations for MCU cameos, it's unlikely such cases will feature in She-Hulk season 1. However, the introduction of Holden Holliway and GLK&H's superhuman law division does open the door for some fun superhero legal comedy to punctuate the MCU's weightier foreshadowing for The Avengers: Secret Wars. Now that Jennifer Walters' role in GLK&H has been fully established, the MCU can better explore superhero law and its rich comic potential. It would be the perfect pay-off for Jen's "lawyer show" promise in She-Hulk episode 1 and could be exactly the sort of thing to freshen up the MCU.
