She-Hulk: Attorney at Law director Kat Coiro reveals that Marvel Studios considered bringing back Edward Norton's Hulk for a cameo in the finale. Joining the ever-growing roster of MCU shows on Disney+, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law chronicles the complicated life of Jennifer Walters (Tatiana Maslany), who is forced to balance her career as a lawyer with her newfound ability to turn into a hulk. The show has earned strong reviews from critics, who praise its departure from typical MCU tropes and Maslany's strong leading performance. She-Hulk: Attorney at Law also sees the return of several other Marvel heroes, including Charlie Cox's Daredevil and Mark Ruffalo's Hulk.

Compared to other MCU shows and movies, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law is exceedingly self-aware. Walters consistently breaks the fourth wall to deliver fun quips or bits of information to the audience, and the show itself even pokes fun at other elements of the MCU. After a season that divided fans, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law came to a mold-breaking conclusion last week. Ruffalo's Hulk returned to Earth after being absent for most of the show, quickly getting into a fight with Tim Roth's Abomination. Before the fight could escalate too far, however, the surprising and hilarious finale saw She-Hulk infiltrate Marvel Studios in order to rewrite her own ending. Now, however, it's been revealed that the She-Hulk: Attorney at Law finale was almost even crazier.

In a recent interview with The Direct, director Kat Coiro reveals that Marvel Studios considered bringing back Edward Norton's Bruce Banner/ Hulk for the She-Hulk: Attorney at Law finale. Norton's version of the character hasn't been seen since The Incredible Hulk in 2008, but the show does feature Ruffalo making a joking reference to the actor swap that occurred for 2012's The Avengers. Check out Coiro's full comment below:

“There was a lot of talk about the fact that the last time they were together a different actor was playing the Hulk. And Mark [Ruffalo] made quite a few jokes about that. And we did entertain the idea of swapping Mark out for Edward Norton. But that did not come to pass.”

Will Edward Norton's Hulk Ever Return In The MCU?

Edward Norton The Incredible Hulk

Although Norton's return in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law ultimately didn't happen, there's still a small chance that the actor will reprise his role for a brief cameo in the future. As has previously been shown off in Spider-Man: No Way Home, the introduction of the multiverse into the MCU allows for some exciting role reprisals. Just as Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield donned their Spider-Man suits once more for Tom Holland's third outing as the MCU hero, it's possible that further exploration of the multiverse in Phase 5 and Phase 6 will lead to the return of Norton's Hulk.

Whether Norton would actually be interested in reprising the role is another matter entirely, but She-Hulk: Attorney at Law and recent MCU announcements certainly means the option is on the table. In addition to Roth reprising his role as Emil Blonsky, it was also recently announced that Tim Blake Nelson's The Leader will return in Captain America: New World Order as the villain after his introduction in The Incredible Hulk. It's unclear just how far along the conversations got regarding bringing back Norton for the She-Hulk: Attorney at Law finale, but the fact that the conversations happened at all suggests that it remains a possibility for future MCU projects.
