She-Hulk: Attorney at Law head writer, Jessica Gao, recently explained that the Daredevil in the show is just like the Marvel Comics version. The legal action-comedy stars Tatiana Maslany as Jennifer Walters, a defense lawyer who has been hired to represent superhumans in a court of law. After a car accident, Walters is inadvertently infected with Bruce Banner's (Mark Ruffalo) blood, which causes her to transform into the She-Hulk. Trailers for the MCU series revealed that Charlie Cox will return to the MCU as Daredevil complete with a new costume.

The Daredevil television series debuted in 2015 on Netflix and ran for three seasons. Despite the show's popularity and critical acclaim, Daredevil was subsequently canceled in 2018. Since then, Cox reprised his role as defense lawyer Matt Murdock in a surprise cameo in Spider-Man: No Way Home and Marvel's Netflix content was then transferred to Disney+. With the actor set to reprise his role as the Devil of Hell's Kitchen for the 18--episode MCU series, Daredevil: Born Again, speculation has run wild with how the hero will fit within She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.

In a recent interview with Collider, Gao revealed that the version of Daredevil in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law is similar to comic book character. The writer praised Cox for his performance and dedication to the role. However, she also noted that due to the comedic nature of the show, Murdock and Walters engage in "funny banter" something different from the brooding and dour character seen in the earlier Daredevil series. Read more of what Gao had to say below.

“He has such reverence and love for that character. It’s clear that the character meant so much to him, but he also came very game to play around. He was totally up for more funny banter and having this fun dynamic with Jen and She-Hulk. It really feels like the character from the comics. It was so fun because he really does fit into the show so perfectly. They’re both lawyers, and they’re both superheroes. Who else can say that they have that in common? It was just very fun thinking about what their dynamics would be, based on the personalities of these two characters.”

Will Daredevil Appear In She-Hulk? No Way Home Set It Up Featured

Although Daredevil has typically been interpreted as a dark character, Gao appears to be pleased and excited with Murdock and Walters' chemistry in the show, inferring a lighter tone to his latest appearance. As the two are both defense attorneys and superheroes, the characters would likely have a lot in common in regard to their powers and moral motivations. This may even lead to a possible romantic interest as the Daredevil and She-Hulk had a brief romance within in the comics. How true Daredevil's upcoming appearance to the source material remains to be seen, however, Gao's comments appear to imply that the hero will differ slightly in tone from the character's previous series.

The Daredevil's traumatic past has made the hero and his stories generally dark compared to many other Marvel Comics characters. This could be seen when writer Frank Miller contributed to the character's run in the 1980s. The previous television series was praised by critics and fans as a relatively faithful adaptation of the character to the screen. However, audiences have wondered how the character would fare within the lighter-toned MCU. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier has set the precedent that the MCU will not shy away from deeper themes and relatively stark violence. With She-Hulk: Attorney at Law billed as a comedy, it is unlikely that Daredevil will commit his acts of brutal justice. However, audiences will likely be pleased that Daredevil will now be firmly be a part of the MCU.
